Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 (edited) Did I read the Jays schedule correctly? They start the season off with a 10 game road trip (STL x 3, KC x 4, LAA x 3)? Edited December 29, 2022 by Krylian
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Did I read the Jays schedule correctly? They start the season off with a 10 game road trip (STL x 3, KC x 3, LAA x 3)? Probably a built in fail safe incase they needed a couple extra weeks for the renovation project at the Stadium. I’m sure it will be complete well ahead of time. But makes sense.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Yeah I think that was even mentioned in an article somewhere
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Idk man, pretty certain that Varsho will be playing every day. Yeah, probably Kiermaier will sit against lefties. I deleted that part of my post as it was getting too long
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2022 Posted December 28, 2022 Lets keep in mind Varsho produced a .553 OPS vs Lefties last season. If he wants to play against them everyday that better dramatically improve because that’s absolutely putrid.

I deleted that part of my post as it was getting too long It would be best to find opportunities to rest our 33 year old CFer (who's often injured). Vs. LHP makes a f***ton of sense.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Man it's exciting knowing the jays have three legit CFers patrolling the OF now.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2022 Posted December 29, 2022 Can you imagine if Charlie was still in charge? #buntsfordays
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Charlie wiping a tear from his eye as he reads that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 hopefully Toronto tries to get him to chill on the bunting, at least for a month or two his projected HRs last year were 30+ in most stadiums and without the shift he might want to just f***ing hack away all year long...
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 wait Varsho is incredible at bunting for hits 9 for 12 last year
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 wait Varsho is incredible at bunting for hits 9 for 12 last year How many of them were against lefties?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 wait Varsho is incredible at bunting for hits 9 for 12 last year Yeah he was good at dragging it past the pitcher on the 1b side where neither the 1b or 2b could get it and throw him out before he outran it.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 How many of them were against lefties? i can't find that split easy but the video probably shows all the hits
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 wait Varsho is incredible at bunting for hits 9 for 12 last year Drag bunts in the shift, as long as he picks his spots well, I might enjoy it. 2nd baseman will be playing him much differently this season.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I actually like this I do too. Obviously there are days guys just aren’t feeling “it” and having the ability to drop one down and then steal second adds another layer to his game. Huge fan.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Man it's exciting knowing the jays have three legit CFers patrolling the OF now. Completely new OF wall and dimensions too. Its not hyperbole to say the Jays completely transformed their outfield this offseason.
Laika Community Moderator Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Toronto has the best defensive outfield in baseball Yes or no?
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Toronto has the best defensive outfield in baseball Yes or no? I'd say yes, although we'll see how Varsho transitions to LF.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Lets keep in mind Varsho produced a .553 OPS vs Lefties last season. If he wants to play against them everyday that better dramatically improve because that’s absolutely putrid. In 2021, he had a .819 OPS against lefties. Better than he hit RHP, albeit only 90 PA. Seems like he tweaked his approach in 2022 primarily to pull and sold out for more power as a result. The elevated home run numbers and strikeout numbers support that. His strikeout rate against lefties was a little high, but nothing outrageous leading me to believe that he was probably getting absolutely destroyed by the shift which will be gone next year. No shift + better hitters parks makes me think he can do enough against lefties to warrant time in the lineup consistently. I don’t think he’ll be great against lefties going forward, but should be better. I’m really excited to see Varsho’s offensive progression next year.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 I'd say yes, although we'll see how Varsho transitions to LF. Huh?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 30, 2022 Posted December 30, 2022 Toronto has the best defensive outfield in baseball Yes or no? I'll go with yes. Steamer has KK and Varsho 6th and 7th in defensive value for OFers. We have 3 guys out there that are all capable of playing CF.

We have 3 guys out there that are all capable of playing CF. Not only are they all capable but two of the three are elite and the other I think was roughly league average in cf (correct me if I'm wrong about Springer). Can't wait to see them tracking down baseballs in the new RC outfield.
