Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 2/10 grade troll I'm 100% not trolling Jim. Let me put it this way. I'm 64 years old and I think you are quite a bit older than that but once us guys reach a certain age we learn a valuable lesson so I think you'll appreciate this. I spent a lot of my youth chasing 10s at the bar. I'd hit a home run and take one home a lot more often than you did but I'd still strike out and go home empty handed more often than not. But then I realized that I don't need to get a 10 to get the job done. In fact, a 5 or maybe even a 4 (hell there's been some 2s and 3s even) would work just fine and I can guarantee you I started to have a lot more fun in life when I realized that. Now in this scenario Bellinger is the 10. Sure he might have an MVP season but we'll probably just end up with nothing at the end of the night. Now bear with me here but Kevin Kiermaier in this scenario is the kind of chubby girl with the big jugs. We can take her home and while she isn't going to win MVP, nor are we going to be bragging about it to all of our friends (hell I probably will anyway), she'll probably get the job done just fine. That makes sense now right? Do you see where I'm coming from?

It's sad, my condolences.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Gallo would be a great bat as a platoon. Has 30-40 HR upside, and would love hitting at the Rogers Centre. Definitely on board if Toronto signed him.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 Apparently the Jays will be signing Bellinger tomorrow. Let's see if we've been #MoLested
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 I honestly thought the Jays would have been on the verge of signing an OFer as soon as they traded Teo. Now we play the waiting game before we decide whether to get out our pitch forks or not lol.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 24, 2022 Posted November 24, 2022 I don't accept any scenario in which KK is the chubby girl.

Definitely on board if Toronto signed him. After Justin Smoak put up a 3.5 WAR season, it should be well established that literally anyone has 30-40 HR upside here. I like the Jays long-term game plan on Hernandez. Trade him to Seattle, watch him put up a 90 OPS+ there and sign him back cheap on a one year deal for the 2024 season.

Baseball largely killed the home run ball when they both deadened the baseball and added humidors to all of the ballparks. 30-40 home runs is a much loftier target than it was even back in 2021. In 2021 there were 40 players who hit 30 home runs or more, and 5 players who topped 40 home runs. There were 12 players who managed to hit 38 home runs or more. Fast forward to 2022 and only 21 players eclipsed the 30 home run plateau, and only 3 were able to hit 40 or more. Only 4 players managed to hit the 38 home run mark. The days of guys like Justin Smoak going deep 38 times is likely a distant memory, at least until MLB decides to f*** around with the baseball yet again.

Chapman would have had 40 HRs this past season if not for the balls. Poor guy hit the most warning track shots I can recall from a Jay.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2022 Posted November 27, 2022 The players usually win anyway. As mentioned, all the other sports get all the meat-and-potatoes out of way right off the bat for the most part. In baseball the big players will wait for so long that you’re thinking they f***ed themselves; then they end up with what you thought, or more. It’s just some random meh veteran here-and-there that screws themselves, which happens in other sports too
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 Threads and threads and polls talking about OF... Hardly any talk about SPs... We need at minimum of two solid 2 SPs and more pitching or having Mike Trout in CF won't matter...

We need at minimum of two solid 2 SPs and more pitching or having Mike Trout in CF won't matter... I'd bet my testicles they sign or trade for one SP better than White+Kikuchi. I hope they add a second as well, making White+Kikuchi the ostensible 6 and 7... but not sure they will. Might end up just adding a swing-man or MiLB guys who are about as good as those two.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 28, 2022 Posted November 28, 2022 If the Jays can get Kodai Senga signed, I wonder if they just roll with Manoah/Gausman/Berrios and let Kikuchi/Senga/White battle for the two remaining SP spots. Maybe just sign some more AAAA type depth.
