Seems like we were in on Semien until the end, according to some of his comments today. Kinda gave the impression that he was close to signing, until the Rangers came in and gave him a stupid amount of money.

Can't blame Semien. It's his last chance to make the big bucks, I would do the same. Tell me who wouldn't besides a certain Guardian.

I don't blame Semien but screw him anyways. I don't know whatbthe Jays were offering but I'm sure it was plenty of money and he would have had multiple legit shots at winning championships. Imagine him still at 2B for the Jays right now?

I hope he never even plays a playoff game with the Rangers.

I'd agree with that for the most part but amend to hope he loses a bunch of playoff games with Texas to the Toronto Blue Jays, WS Champs of 2022.

I know. You can bet the PA gave him a call and is asking him WTF

If Semien signed here, Biggio and others would be off to Cleveland for JRam.

Vlad, Semien, Bichette, JRam infield

Or it could have played out very similar to how it did, and maybe the trade to Oakland would just look a little different with the players going their way.

Vlad, Semien, Bichette and Chapman IF would still be one of the best infields in recent memory anywhere.

He'll be back. Assuming he's getting optioned

Aww poor guy… I was hoping he’d at least get to play a BIT. Seems like a valuable guy to have on the bench with his flexibility

A bench of Collins, Espinal (or Biggio if Espinal takes the job), Tilapia and Zimmer isn't half bad.

It's a little bit awkward though in terms of roster construction. If any one of Biggio, Espinal, Chapman or Bichette is unavailable even for a day or two we will have zero backup infielders and will have to make a roster move. Which I suppose could be optioning Collins for Katoh?

Collins and Gurriel can play 1B, Vlad 3B if needed, which leaves 3 of Biggio, Espinal, Chapman, Bichette for the 2 middle positions. So it can be covered short term until the roster move is made.

Arden Zwelling

@ArdenZwelling

Right-handed reliever Shaun Anderson’s with the Blue Jays in New York.

No official move announced by the club yet. Blue Jays would need to make room on both 28- and 40-man roster in order to add Anderson to its stretched bullpen ahead of tonight’s game vs the Yankees.

Sounds like a Sauce Do DFA to me.

Vasquez would have made more sense to me given he's already on the 40 man and both Saucedo and Thornton have options if you want to send either down without DFAing them. But Vasquez pitched yesterday and Anderson can probably give you some length I guess.

The beauty of batting Vladdy #3 instead of #2 in this lineup.

  • 9th inning last night: Vladdy is 4-4 and just needs a single person to get on base to get a chance at making history with his fourth home run of the night. The Jays go down 1-2-3 and the inning ends on a Bo Bichette ground out, Vladdy never comes to the plate.

  • 2nd inning tonight: Bases loaded with a chance to break the game open against Severino. Bichette grounds out, Vladdy never comes to the plate.

  • 7th inning tonight: Springer gets HBP, Yankees fans cheer. Blue Jays have a chance to make them pay and tie the game at the same time. Bichette grounds out, Vladdy never comes to the plate.

  • 9th inning tonight: Bases loaded, chance to come back and win the most frustrating game of all time. Bichette caught out on a soft liner, Chapman TOOTBLAN, Vladdy never comes to the plate.

Vlad would've done s*** if he got a PA in the 9th. His swing was off tonight.

Also, Chapman sucks. Can't believe he's swindling this team of $13 million for the next two seasons.

Hey don't associate weed with terrible opinions about baseball players.

A couple of good opinions might help with that case. Let's wait and see.

Hey, what do you all think extensions would look like for Vladdy and Bo?

They are both free agents in 2026. Their arb numbers *may* look like this...

5M/10M/18M/22M

Could/should the Jays sign both of them for similar amounts? 12-year, 340M? Is this even close to realistic? I do not even know where they would begin.

Bichette -> 30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/20/20 (FA at 35 years old)

Vladdy -> 30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/20/20 (FA at 34 years old)

I do not want to trade them, but say by 2024 no extensions are signed, and both continue their career trajectory...what sort of haul would they bring back, say, if they started looking at trades as early as 2024? Could you imagine trading both for 4-5 A prospects from a couple organizations? It'd be sad, but super interesting.

Another option would be to sign one, and trade the other. You still get a huge haul, and you keep one of the "vets".

I think Shi Davidi took a deeper dig into it. He suggested Corey Seager as a good comp for Bichette. For Seagers 3-6 years + the deal he just signed, it came out to around 14 years, 351 million IIRC. So I'd expect something around there, if they go with that type of term.

For Vlad, I think it'll be more than Bichette. Maybe around 360-365 for similar term. Just my guess though.

Regardless, gonna take 700+ million to lock both up. I think Vlad re-signs and Bo goes to FA.
