TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Atkins was reported to be one of, if not the most active and aggressive GM in the offseason, so this doesn't come as too much of a surprise to me. I wonder how many other close deals there were? In a parallel universe, there is a Jays team that is fielding Jose Ramirez and Verlander. Syndergaard was the same story as Verlander. Jays pretty much matched the winning offer, they missed out by like $1M.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Moreno not in the line up for the second day in a row. I thought we rested a lot of key players in the Baltimore series so we can field the best line up possible against the Yankees, which would be Moreno catching and Kirk at DH. I guess the front office shares the same views as Chuckles when he was asked about the importance of this series by saying that it's just another game/series. This group has a pre determined scheduling of rest days, no matter what the situation. What a sad sack of f***ing losers. Shapiro better wake up and hire a real GM that is also respected around the league which Atkins is obviously not. Like it or not, this matters big time. Take Chuckles, Martinez and Rivera with you and helicopter drop them in a volcano with Atkins. We won't win a f***ing thing with this group.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Teo DHing today after being the DH on Wednesday night. Is he nursing something? I find it hard to believe that a player in his prime can't play RF for the fourth day in a row. LOL.. WTF is going on?

Vlad has DHd on opposite sides of an off day, we know Bichette has a foot contusion that he’s playing through, Chapman and his hand also. You could probably find a reason to DH any regular in the lineup right now, which is why we keep seeing Tapia continue to get way more starts than he should. I’d be playing Biggio over Tapia, but it’s obvious the staff sees things differently.

jerb Verified Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 Keegan Matheson @KeeganMatheson Nate Pearson just left his AAA start after two pitches. He sailed a fastball high and his catcher came right out. He walked off with the training staff. #BlueJays

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2022 Posted June 19, 2022 You’re right, but still it’s frustrating I agree there’s no doubt it’s frustrating and at this point it’s probably better to expect nothing from Pearson in the same way we expect nothing from Merryweather.

They're DHing guys so that Tapia gets more PAs. That's why the guys that are actually hurt (Bichette, Chapman) don't ever DH because Tapia can't cover those positions. They're playing Zobrist-ball with Tapia, except he sucks.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 Hell of a gm yesterday! This is not a project year for the Jays. Optimists and pessimists on Kooch. Guys wanting to dunk on a good start or a few bad ones. He has sucked mostly(for a year now) and $32M AAV being paid to him and Ryu. We can't keep throwing a 5th out there for 2 to 4 IP when Strip is our 4th. Any way you slice it. We don't have the pen to carry that and get many W's. Keep talking his upside. He cant command the FB so his secondary stuff is meh. Improbable he is ever close to a Ray makeover V 2.0 or even Matz '21 IMO.

The bottom will come out eventually. His best use seems to and long relief and when he’s needed as a fill in SP. Even if you don’t like Kooch, what’s the answer? A trade? Most people would be happy with that if it’s for someone clearly better but it probably won’t happen. Or do you want to give Anthony Kay and his upside a shot?
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 May 4th to May 28th Kikuchi had 5 starts 2.36 ERA 2.64 FIP 5.1 IP per start Only 1 HR He was bad before this for his first four starts (failed to pitch 4 innings three of the times) and bad in the four starts since. I wonder if this was just random or if something did click but then he lost it.
