The_DH Verified Member Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 My Rushmore would be a bit different: Stieb, Clancy, Halladay and Henke. Clancy was a moose for so many years and he and Stieb led us out of the basement. Henke was the first guy to make this a 9 inning game. Before him it was 8 innings of good starting and then we got beat. No explanation needed for Halladay. Trashmore would be: Sirotka, Hamilton, Hanson and Lemanczyk.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Some of my additional takes: George Bell does not make my Mt Rushmore for Jays outfielders. I could actually be sold on Henke being on the list. The guy put up modern day reliever numbers in a hitters era. And he's 28th in Innings pitched. Ernie Whitt is criminally underrated as he is making some what appear to be joke lists. At worst he is the second best catcher the Jays ever had (I put him behind Martin myself) and is the 78th best catcher by fWAR all-time
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Tony Fernandez: Career leader in Defensive WAR, Games Played, Triples and hits. Also, incredibly class individual. Dave Stieb: Pretty much owns all the SP categories, plus the no-hitter. after like blowing it 6 times in the 9th. Jose Bautista: Career offensive WAR leader. Carlos Delgado; Career leader in RBI, SLG, HR, OPS, Doubles, Walks etc Bautista is 1st to be replaced, assuming Vladdy stays long enough. FYI: Vernon Wells is career leader in AB, Outs made, and GIDP.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 Hahaha... that board meme, was a classic. Barry Tallet was one of the all time greats.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2022 Posted March 12, 2022 I can’t believe no one has mentioned Jesse Barfield. The guy was a beast.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I can’t believe no one has mentioned Jesse Barfield. The guy was a beast. He was awesome but it’s hard to break top 5. Mine would be Halliday Delgado Bautista Stieb Alomar would of been in there if he wasn’t a f***ing creep
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 I can’t believe no one has mentioned Jesse Barfield. The guy was a beast. My favourite position player back in the day.
WryNGinger Verified Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Halladay, Steib, Bautista, Delgado Also loved Devon White, Fernandez and Henke. Not sure where the separation should be between straight numbers and sentimental/franchise defining moments/eras.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Yeah George Bell’s D going to take him right out of the discussion for the FG crowd. Actually I guess the O wasn’t that great. He washed out quick. First bad season at 33 and he was done. No DH or anything
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 No love for Jimmy Key either. I loved Jimmy Key. But on Rushmore? No.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Surprised nobody else is saying Donaldson. Best position season in franchise history. And 4th best too. Best position player on a per game or PA basis in franchise history, I think. Was on some of the best teams in franchise history. Basically got as much hardware in 3 years as Delgado got his entire Toronto career. Short tenure ofc but 3 seasons of greatness is at least 50% longer than the Clemens-Toronto marriage. I love Delgado's longevity and consistency but I find the thought of him toiling away on those Jays teams so depressing

A players career with the team that drafted them is kinda like real life relationships. You stick around because you see the potential or you believe the promises and then you realize you should have moved on long ago. lol

Nexii Verified Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Halladay Steib Bautista Delgado Delgado narrowly over Fernandez because he was never implicated in steroids when they were most prevalent. His totals would have been much more impressive otherwise.
wamco Verified Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 He was rumored to be on the same list as Ortiz.
