Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 The only way I see Freeman signing in Toronto is if he's got some life long desire of winning a championship in Canada. 1 year deal where he and Vladdy spell each other between 1B and DH. And even that scenario is hard to buy. Would love to see it... But I just don't see it. Or a championship anywhere. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall that the Braves got lucky and him on the Blue Jays would make them a strong contender, maybe even the Vegas favourite. Unless you meant this from the perspective that he just won a World Series and is looking for more $$$$ and fit than rings.
The_DH Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Jon Heyman @JonHeyman Teams are trying to pry superstar 1B Freddie Freeman from Atlanta. Some say they still don’t think it will happen but r surprised he’s still free. Dodgers, who lost Seager and could move Muncy to 2B, may have best hope for SoCal product, NYY, TOR (h/t Carlos Baerga) reached out. We're badly in need of some lefty bats, but that would be a WOW.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 We're badly in need of some lefty bats, but that would be a WOW. Give him a 4 year contract with a higher per year than others and it is entirely possible i think
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Expecting Freeman now. Don't let us down
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 part time 3rd, part time DH, part time 1st? Vlad could split time at first with Espinal. You could roll with a combination of Espinal and Biggio at second, and Freeman and Vlad could split the remaining time at first and DH. It would be a little complicated but damn that infield would rake.

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I think you meant Freddie, but I like using that .gif Lol that should have said Vlad split time at third with Espinal.

Vlad and Freeman could split time at 1B/DH and we could still pick up a 3B (Jose Ramirez, Chapman, Seager) and then platoon Biggio and Espinal at 2B. Plenty of ABs to go around. Freeman probably doesn't seem like the most natural fit, but sometimes it's about finding the right guys to take your money as much as it is finding the perfect fits. If he's interested in playing here we should make it happen.

mellowgold Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I wouldn't object to Freeman and J-Ram. Imagine? Easily the best lineup in Jays history, even under the assumption Lourdes goes to Cleveland in a JRam trade. cf Springer 3b Ramirez 1b/dh Vlad dh/1b Freeman ss Bichette rf Teo c Jansen (Moreno soon) 2b Biggio/Espinal lf Grichuk or some other shitbag
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I know it would never happen but if Shatkins stole Freddie away from AA the sportsnet comment section would be in disarray
InsideThePark Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I don't see any reasonable world where the Jays move Vlad off 1st, and I don't see any reasonable world where the Jays commit to the DH being used everyday for Vladdy/Freeman for the next 4 to 6 years. It only makes any sense if Freeman is ticking off items on a list, and now that he's got a World Series he wants to play in Canada for a 1 year or something. Which also doesn't make sense. The whole thing doesn't make sense. Maybe the Jays are doing him a solid and helping him leverage the Braves for more money as a screw you to AA or something.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I can see Ed Rogers in the background pushing for a Freeman signing. That's the only way a Jays pursuit of Freeman makes sense.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 If the Jays signed Freeman, then Vlad is definitely playing 3B. They won't put him at DH even part time given how young he is and how solid he looked on the field in 2021. I don't see the logic in getting Freeman unless they want to move Vlad to 3B, and I don't think they do. Although maybe Fit Vlad would be average at third, who knows. A more likely scenario is something like signing Taylor and then trading Kirk, Biggio, and prospects for Ramirez (something like that). Adding Freeman and Ramirez is a video game set of transactions.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I can see Ed Rogers in the background pushing for a Freeman signing. That's the only way a Jays pursuit of Freeman makes sense. I just don't see Freeman ultimately fitting in the budget. Reports have him looking for 6 years and $180 million. The Jays wouldn't hand out a similar contract to a more impactful player in Semien so I just don't see them giving that to Freeman.
The_DH Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 4 could work if it's a huge AAV. Supposedly he’s asking for 180 million so that would be some aav
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I know it would never happen but if Shatkins stole Freddie away from AA the sportsnet comment section would be in disarray I would actually open that entire comments section and read it on my morning commute to work haha. Would be a spectacular read.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Author Posted November 30, 2021 We're badly in need of some lefty bats, but that would be a WOW. I would s*** my pants if they signed Freeman. He projected for a 3-year deal. Maybe if he's given a 5-year, 20M AAV? He's 32. But worth ~ 4 WAR a season. And he bats left. Which is really what is needed.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 I don't think Freddie is getting a $30m AAV. $25M maybe.
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted November 30, 2021 Posted November 30, 2021 Jays aint signing anyone getting a contract that big. Taylor is actually realistic, IMO.
