I think it depends on length and AAV (which, as I type it, is stupid to say because it always does).

Heading into his Age 33 year, I think this Steamer projection is in line with what you would expect.

18 HR 85 R 73 RBI 32 SB 6.6% BB 18.5% K .276 AVG .339 OBP .437 SLG 110 wRC+ 2.9 BsR 11.0 OFF -1.2 DEF 3.1 WAR

With that production, he'd be a great fit and would allow us to move Gurriel if we wanted. What do you think he'll get for a contract? 3 years $50M?

Lorenzo Cain got 5/80 entering his age-32 season. Entering his age-33 season Marte is going to do similarly. Maybe just 4 years.

I would think (hope?) the Cain contract is a cautionary tail of giving out too many years and $$$'s to a good, but not great hitter who lacks power and relies on speed a lot. Cain gave the Brewers one solid season before he fell off a cliff.

Someone might give him 4 years, but I think TL is right that Marte might be someone who falls under the radar a bit.

Jays tried for E-Rod but the pitcher opted for Detroit

I think he comes in at like $54m over three years. Maybe if his market gets hot then he can pull 60/3 or 72/4. And considering he just posted a near 6-WAR season and has no QO attached, I'd have no qualms with getting in on Marte at 72/4.

Hell, after all the talk about bringing in the Seager brothers, it would be hilarious if the Jays got both of the Martes instead. Makes more sense from a roster standpoint and it's not even that unrealistic to imagine the Marte boys accumulating more 2022 WAR than the Seagers.

I love that idea (although it probably means we're going into the year with Biggio/Espy at 3rd again). I think it's 'likely' the Martes out WAR the Seagers in 2022.

I'm entirely cool with that. Biggio, Espinal, Moreno, Groshans, Taylor, Lopez and Smith is a very strong pipeline of players that are pretty much MLB-ready. Having at least one position open on the team to let those guys battle it out in spring training seems like the ideal scenario for me. At least one of those guys is eventually going to emerge as a really good player.

Like, Jose Ramirez is obviously my #1 target this offseason but if that's not realistic, Ketel Marte is one of the only guys in the league with an even better contract than him. If they can swing that, this offseason is already gravy.

In a perfect world, Marte switches to third and second base is the spot where the competition is, but I'm also very okay with Marte just playing 2B and having 3B open for Moreno when he wants it.

It's a nice problem to have that's for sure. I really do wonder what Cleveland's asking price is for Ramirez. At this point it has to start with Moreno without a doubt. Maybe Moreno, Gurriel + something?

Cleveland seems to like Kirk a lot. Apparently asked for him in return for Kluber a couple of years ago, and there was a report in SI that said "the Blue Jays reportedly rejected a deadline ask for Ramírez that built a package around Alejandro Kirk and an assortment of top prospects and major league players." I don't think the Jays give up Moreno regardless, but if that report is true, then my guess is they could probably make something work with Kirk instead. Who they have to add in addition to him is the question.

I don't think you need Moreno for Ramirez. I think you can get it done with Kirk and Martinez as the focal point.

Jose is on an incredible deal but time is starting to tick on getting max value for him. The deadline next year leaves 1.5 years and then after that, he's just a one-year rental. The Indians I think will realize that and be a bit more open to moving him this winter.

I think I'd rather go after Chapman or sign Seager. We have a need for a third baseman, but not an MVP calibre hitter per se. This is still perhaps the best hitting team in baseball.

If we're truly committed to being a consistent contender then we may be better off keeping and developing more of our prospects. We have a lot of money to spend and there is a lot of free agent pitching

I think Semien is a perfect fit for this roster. He would most likely provide similar impact to Ramirez without necessitating sending out top prospects in return. There are enough decent quality starters available in trade that I would prefer the Jays go this route to obtain another starter along with signing a mid tier starter of the Matz ilk in free agency.

Does the fact Robbie Ray hasn't officially turned down the QO mean any more likely that he and the team might legitimately working on a multi year deal? Or is that fact likely meaningless.

Smart thing to do is wait till the last day. He could get injured tomorrow.

That still leaves us a hole at 3B, but I would be absolutely thrilled if Semien returns.

With Semien in tow I have no issue with rolling with some combination of Espinal/Smith/Moreno to man third base.

Agreed. If we have Semien/Bichette/Guerrero's bats all in the infield I can handle a defense first/average hitting 3B in there.

How are the Red Sox finances for 2022? Can they afford to outbid everyone to keep him? (E Rodriguez)

Guess not LOL

There's no way Shatkins gives that up for 2 years of Ramirez.

Right-hander pitcher @jolamakina will be announced as soon as Wednesday as one of the Toronto Blue Jays' big signings this offseason. The agreement is expected to be around 7 years and 140 millions for the Puerto Rican. #TeamRubio #PensarNoCuesta

This guy does have 41.3K followers? Could this be true? It sends a big message to any free agents looking for multiyear deals.

I mean, if you keep Moreno at Catcher, you move Kirk plus a prospect for Lopez.

The mlb strike is coming. The players want his money before the strike.

Great deal for Berrios.

Good deal, even assuming a couple of years are lost to injury or suckage, it works out to 5 year / 140M or $28M AAV which is fine for a pitcher of his calibre.
