Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 They must have Groshans ranked higher than Martin internally. Feels a little lofty for 1.5 years of Berrios, but maybe he comes with an extension? Yeah I was thinking SWR and Groshans would be hard to swallow... but Martin??? what the f***. He never got to be Bo's flow bro

Let's see if anything else is in the deal.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 This is akin to giving up D'Arnaud and Thor for Dickey. Heck even the 150M for Springer had a Vernon Wells vibe.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Quite an overpay unless the Jays and Berrios have an agreement in principle on an extension. Saw a report mentioning teams had been talking to Berrios agent. If no extension, this was a bad move IMO
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Remember when Shapiro scolded AA for trading prospects? Lol
RobinThicc Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 If you told me SWR and Martin were on the tables, I'd guess they'd be able to do even better than Berrios That is a crazy move by Atkins.
Davie Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 If somehow Buxton is involved i can breathe abit easier. But man this is what i was concerned about coming into today with all the bidding wars that went on yesterday, that prices today were going to be stupidly high.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 There's not going to be anyone else in this deal. The team was competing with three others, including the Rays. I knew right away this was going to be an overpay.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 This is akin to giving up D'Arnaud and Thor for Dickey. Heck even the 150M for Springer had a Vernon Wells vibe. This is a really bad post, like epic bad.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 This is exactly what i was just thinking. Although Scherzer probably had control of where he was going and would have vetoed a trade here
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Dodgers didn’t give up as much for Scherzer and Turner and the Jays gave up a whole lot more for Berrios than they got for Stroman. Crazy
JG34 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Surely Berrios can’t be the only one coming back at that price?
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 That trade simulator site says that Martin/SWR for Berrios/Buxton would be a fair value deal. Buxton included in this, right?????
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Aw f***. What in the hell Atkins. They better get this guy extended immediately. Imagine if there is a lock out next year and then he walks? SWR and Martin for 2 f***ing months of Berrios?? What are they thinking?
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 If Berrios isn't lined up for an extension, this is a fireable offense. f***ing ********.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Still doesn't seem like a reason to sell short on Martin... Has Atkins ever won a medium-high level trade? Stroman trade turned out to be kind of a disaster.. and this one could be worse
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 This is a really bad post, like epic bad. I am not an analytical guy, my bad. This just all feels like it's about to end up as those two deals have in the past. But I am optimistic, we'll see where it goes. Just sad, Martin was an awesome dude to watch.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Apologetics time. Martin and SWR are both putting up bad numbers relative to their prospect status. The assumption we might have to make is that Toronto thinks they aren't as good as the public industry has them ranked. Maybe Martin's statcast type data is ugly.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 LETS f***ING GoooooooooooOoooooo

The team is confident in Groshans and Martinez, so they felt those two were moveable..we better sign berrios to an extension imo.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Got to wonder if after a year of SWR and Martin the valuations of both has declined, SWR projecting as a back of rotation guy and Martin an OBP guy with limited power and average defense. That's the only explanation I can think of, barring a Berrios extension at a reasonable price.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I've gone from excited, to sad, to pissed. f*** me.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 AWFUL trade. They’re not even going to make the playoffs and should be sellers. What the heck are they thinking? With this offense this is far from certain, you from the future? Only need a WC.

I heard Martin has some kind of hand injury he's been playing through... maybe they think this injury is a bad one and he'll miss significant development time next year??
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 f***ING EMBARRASSING *kicks trash can*
