If we sign Kim, that obviously takes us out of the running for guys like LeMahieu, Lindor, and Arenado. Springer becomes a much more obvious target in that case and we would certainly remain interested in more pitching.

Something like Kim, Springer, and Sugano or Tanaka would be incredible.

I do wonder if the Jays are willing to open the wallet to this degree in one offseason. What does it take to sign 3 of these guys? 8-10 for Kim, 25 for Springer, and then another 10-12 or thereabouts for Tanaka/Sugano? That's a lot of dough for an administration that's typically been pretty conservative, but at the same time they've never been fully on board with pushing to contention until now.

They obviously didn't throw a number out there, but a payroll in the range of 120 million doesn't seem too outrageous. They have talked many times about adding multiple high impact players. That says to me an increase of at least 30 million.

So you were the first person to report this trade. Who the hell are you..lol

My son told me like a min or two later. Gotta know who to follow on Twitter I’m guessing

120 million seems pretty outrageous for 2021 given that they'll likely have no home fans for a good chunk of the season.

Going forward, assuming things return to normal for 2022, it seems reasonable. Expect lower payrolls all around for this season.

A single player like Lindor or Springer and a couple of relievers gets us close to 120. The front office has been pretty open about what they expect to accomplish. Unless they are misleading us then you will be wrong.

I am trying to figure out what the per game take is for the Jays. It seems Rogers must rake it in via cable and at-home viewers. This would give the big markets like the Jays an advantage over a team like Cincinatti.

With trades I usually get 4-5 Tweets immediately. Don't get me wrong, I check here first things every AM, but Twitter is amazing for the baseball freaks. Instant info.

That'd be interesting info. Let us know what you come up with.

Well I think mlb gate rev has always been 30% of total rev. With Covid they started claiming 40.

Not sure how all the cooking of the books works but I know Yankees started raking it in when they created YES so I’m imagining Jays make some dough with their situation

So they are talking about a possible Blake Snell trade on MLB radio with a couple former GMs and baseball insiders.

A few quick bullet points. Adel from the Angels, doesn’t do it. Rays would want young pitching coming back in any deal, OFs are a dime a dozen.

Blue Jays package/trade concept: Would be something like: Groshans, Danny Jansen and Manoha for Snell and Margot to play CF. Or substitute Zeuch for one of the position players..

Groshans, Jansen, Manoah - Deal

Groshans, Jansen, Manoah - Deal

Huh, interesting to read this now... So, we already agreed Manoah = Wilcox.. Jansen surpasses Mejia and Groshans surpasses Patino. Not sure where Hunt falls in there.. But interesting...

Very closely ranked in prospect rankings now, and Groshans is a position player.. I like Patino and he is a stud, but I would take a stud position player over a pitcher all things equal... Risk vs reward.. Of course the Padres don't need stud position players.. but the value is equal enough that you can say a wash.. if you don't agree with Groshans over Patino..

Assuming Lindor will not sign an extension (yet), what would it take to get him from Cleveland?

Similarly, what would it take to get Castillo from the Reds?

We're at the start of our uphill climb to become consistent winners so I can't see us making that trade without an extension agreed upon. Just makes 0 sense to give up prospects for a 1 year window of Lindor when we're not there yet. I wouldn't even contemplate that happening.

I think people are expecting Cleveland to get a lot more than they actually will for Lindor if he doesnt come with an extension.

I recall seeing a report that that Indians weren't getting great offers for Lindor and that they were thinking about adding Carrasco just to get the offers they're expecting.

If they are wanting better offers they may have to offer a negotiation window for an extension (i believe we did that with Dickey). I believe times are changing and teams don't want to give up a pile for a 1 year rental. Your starting to see that a little more at the trade deadline as well.

Cubs shopping Willson Contreras, how about a deal centered around Jansen for him?

I'm not sure Contreras is even better than Jansen, let alone more valuable. He's a better hitter and in general a good hitter especially for a catcher but his defense is pretty bad and that can translate over to the pitching staff. Jansen projects to be better over fewer games and is 3 years younger with two more years of control.

If we didn’t have Kirk I’d be down to move Bad Luck Danny for him.
