Yeah, but it's usually stated as such (which is fine). Today's conjecture is presented as facts supported by "sources", which seem to be the voices in the journalist's head.

Along with the prevalence of “clickbait” which has really exploded in the last 10 years as the internet and 24/7 news cycle have grown

Just recalibrate and strengthen your filters. And disregard Morosi content.

That hasn't been debunked, it's still a possibility he goes to Japan, it has to be a team he's okay to sign with.

I'm hoping he stays.

The original headline was debunked.

The first sentence of your article says “Tanaka may be interested in playing for another mlb team after all”- which in fact implies the previous info was bad

Then let's get the show on the road man. Heard the same thing for a while now.

This is like the people on facebook who complain that the rumoured aggressiveness is all talk, but then also complain the team should have been more patient with the whole Morales/EE situation.

I really don't understand the urgency, almost every major FA is still on the board. Asking for something to be done as soon as possible is essentially asking for an overpayment.

I want a big fish too

I just still see Lamahieu and Realmuto staying where they are and Springer to the Mets. I'd love to be wrong though :)

It's pretty funny. Lots of dumb fans.

My comment wasn't towards the Jays but MLB free agency. Of course the Jays shouldn't bite while the best players are still on the board.

The Morales situation was a joke so they better not handle things like that again lol.

The equivalent now would be

Springer says no to 5/120

So they offer Bradley Jr 3/45 right away before Springer even signs anything

Hasn't happened yet so it won't happen I don't imagine

Sportsnet

@Sportsnet

The top reliever on the free-agent market has been seen visiting the Blue Jays' complex in Dunedin Eyes.

@ShiDavidi has the details ⤵

If we can't get an impact bat or frontline starter does it *maybe* make sense to pay top $$ for an elite closer and upgrade defensively at 3B and CF with lower cost acquisitions?

Tanaka himself post red on Twitter he was considering all teams who had interest. So there’s that.

I know, it's in the article, there's still the possibility he goes home. Nothing was debunked. Aside from clickbait headlines, that's the only thing baldilocks reads.

They're going to do this regardless, imo. Especially if they splash on a big FA.

Exactly. Nobody has signed. Did people really expect this years offseason to move at a pace faster than the last 5 years? Half the league doesn’t even know how to construct their roster ffs, of course free agency is dragging out.

I was listening to the Starting 9 pod over Christmas and they made a good point that these free agents aren’t in a hurry to sign because they train themselves - the players have become extremely individualized in the sense that they can do whatever they need to improve or get ready for next season on their own. Tell me when Spring Training starts and I’ll be there ready to go.

Sure if you have 5 kids and a wife who all want to know what school they’re going to the desire to sign might be stronger, but not enough to throw your hands up and take whatever deal is on the table.

Jon Heyman

@JonHeyman

Liam Hendriks was spotted today at Jays Dunedin complex. He doesn’t have a deal yet but had an open invite to view upgraded complex. Hendriks was once a Blue Jay, and they hope to bring him back. Others in, as well, though, for the star closer. @ShiDavidi 1st on LH whereabouts

Mark Feinsand

@Feinsand

Liam Hendriks is visiting the Blue Jays complex today in Dunedin, Fla., source confirms @ShiDavidi report. The reliever is meeting with Jays president/CEO Mark Shapiro. Toronto is among teams in the mix for Hendriks, though the White Sox are believed to be serious about him, too.

The original report was that if the Yankees did not resign Tanaka, he would go home i.e., he would not sign with any other MLB teams. That is the report that was debunked.

True

Whether its big $$$ on Springer/Lindor or lesser $ on Bradley Jr/Gregorious/Turner the defense will be improved just by moving Vlad away from 3rd and Grichuk away from CF

On Eno Sarris' podcast a couple weeks ago he said that he thinks Toronto's offseason will end up looking something like Sugano + Hendriks + Joc Pederson.

Hendriks projects to be the best RP in baseball (or tied for that). He would be a massive upgrade and an upgrade that is probably underrated by fWAR.

Probably only takes a three year contract... so he'll be off the books well before the current core starts getting too expensive.

I usually laugh when teams sign free agent closers to huge contracts

But I might feel pretty good about Hendricks on a 3 year deal

We do get quite a bit better in that scenario, so hard to be disappointed in the conventional sense, but at this point, anything short of one of Springer/LeMahieu/Bauer/Realmuto/Lindor would leave me a little disappointed.

Probably unfair to the front office, whose valuations I trust and who promised on making the team significantly better (and did), but after a long drawn out winter and dreaming of Springer/Lindor, that'll be tough pill to swallow lol

Yeah that sounds like a you problem. Lots of really solid potential additions you didn't name.

Semantics Jim, he still *MIGHT* go home, he said it himself and *Did Not* refute that. Like I've said, I hope he sticks around.

Would not be mad if that's true.

I'll probably be relieved if Lindor is traded somewhere else rather than disappointed. As far as the others, free agency is a two way street. Both sides have to want to do the deal, and the Jays are in a tough selling point (not sure where they will play in 2021 and then the usual Canada/America issue). The good news is, even if they miss out on the top end of free agency, they'll be at an advantage in the second tier market as one of the few teams willing to spend big. Hendriks is an example of that assuming they can get him.
