From what I can see, his peripherals are fine. Gets the ball in the air 60% of the time, hits it hard, walk and k rates were fine but he had a .211 babip. He could be a perfectly serviceable player, especially given our need for IF.

Agreed. At first glace I wasn't impressed, but looking into it further he can be a useful piece with upside. Him plus a decent prospect is a solid return

If Drury is the main piece, Shatkins will get ripped by the fans. Doesn't make sense.

Statkins gets ripped by the casuals regardless. f*** the casuals.

The fans will rip Shatkins because they probably won't know any of the other guys involved in the deal. Even if we get an intriguing arm like a Deivi Garcia or Roansy Contreras they won't be brought up as the headliners because they're unknown relative to Drury.

I agree with the non Drury haters. I don't think he's great or anything but not as bad as some are making it out to be.

No he's not Chris Davis bad with a massive contract. I think what fans wanted, was a high ceiling prospect, even if he may have not been currently a team's top 10. But looking at other teams trades so far, Happ should have gotten a top 10 prospect, which Drury isn't. So, maybe there's a semi decent prospect coming back, but if Drury is the 'main piece', that would be a pretty bad trade.

Right, let's wait to see what the complimentary pieces are, I just don't like reading 'Drury' is the main piece, that would lead us to believe the other prospects are just throw ins which the Yanks probably don't value too high.

Looks like it's just going to be Drury/McKinney, not as good as I hoped for but a decent enough return on a guy we could very well re-sign in the offseason. I'm ok with it.

What did you think of Josh Donaldson at 25?

Are you really comparing Drury to Donaldson?!

For every Donaldson there are 100,000 mediocre minor leaguers that amount to nothing.

Stop being ridiculous.

There's nothing wrong with Drury but what does he add to the table that Solarte, Gurriel, Diaz and Travis don't? Sure, he might be better than those guys but it isn't even a slam dunk. The guy is a decent bench player, nothing more.

He's young enough where I guess there could be some upside with him but I would much prefer the Jays get some prospects over a guy like him. That said, it seems like this is definitely a buyer's market so I'm not sure we'll be happy with any of the possible packages.

Drury is a ~26 year old bad baserunner and bad fielder who projects to be a below average hitter and replacement level overall. I don't see the upside or value at all, unless you expect a 1 in 1000 Josh Donaldson type breakout.

McKinney doesn't turn the needle much for me. Really hoping that's not all and we're getting one of their very many intriguing young arms.

Nah Im using an example of a late bloomer, there are hundreds more. Im not saying it's likely his career goes that way, but Im not labeling him a complete bust at 25.

You're literally asking for Clint Frazier or Sheffield for Happ and accusing me of being ridiculous lol

lf we don't get a least one of the Yankees decent pitching prospects I will be very disappointed.

So Jays 1 month ago:

'Ya, we want Sheffield'

Jays today:

'We'll take anything you have to offer, Drury who you want to dump anyways, sure'

That’s not what I said. I said I don’t Drury, and if he’s the “main” piece that will be gross unless there’s a very intriguing prospect included.

If the Jays got a couple of exciting prospects in the low minors that would be great. Another replacement level middle infielder that doesn’t play great defense is not an exciting return at all.

I'm not super disappointed with this. Would have been great to get someone with a higher pedigree obviously but it fills a spot in LF next season with Hernandez hopefully never going into the OF again and a 2B/3B type that you'll be paying nothing for.

nah you said he's a AAAA fodder at best, therefore labeling him a complete bust

The reporters are just circle jerking each other, no one is adding any more info lol. It does seem like it's Drury and McKinney for Happ though.

He wasn’t a high draft pick or overly promising prospect ever. Him being AAAA fodder isn’t labeling him a bust. He is pretty much living up to his expectations, which aren’t high.

Ugh.

I'm a Shatkins fan, but they struck out on this one. Hopefully Drury becomes as good as some in this thread think he can be.
