Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Would much, much prefer a few lotto tickets in the low minors to another replacement level 2B
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Ugh. I'm a Shatkins fan, but they struck out on this one. Hopefully Drury becomes as good as some in this thread think he can be. I don't think him being average is such a huge thing to ask for.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 We just traded for younger versions of Yangervis Solarte and Dwight Smith Jr. What a dud of a trade.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 WTF Shatkins? This is a terrible return.. I could be wrong, but would guys like Medina, Contreras and Garcia not be within asking price instead?
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I heard Drurys trackman readouts were nuts after being developed by NYY dev guys.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Dammit I thought we were getting Erik Swanson as a second or third piece. Drury I guess will be playing a lot of LF because we currently have no place for him on the infield. Unless this means they are moving Solarte.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Whats up with Schmidt? Thrown 14 innings since being drafted 16th overall. Had TJS and was recovering.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 WTF Shatkins? This is a terrible return.. I could be wrong, but would guys like Medina, Contreras and Garcia not be within asking price instead? How in the f*** would anyone on here know? How do you judge when you literally know absolutely nothing about the options?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 We just traded for younger versions of Yangervis Solarte and Dwight Smith Jr. What a dud of a trade. My thoughts exactly lol.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 He wasn’t a high draft pick or overly promising prospect ever. Him being AAAA fodder isn’t labeling him a bust. He is pretty much living up to his expectations, which aren’t high. He was a Dbacks #3 prospect at one point
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 He’s AAAA fodder at best. So today we landed Drury, McKinney and a new, below average troll. Great.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I like the Oh trade better than this one. Oh well.
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Drury has been a bad fielder everywhere he's played: 2B, 3B, LF, RF. He projects for a 92 wRC+. He's Devon Travis and Solarte, but worse in basically every category.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Feels like a safe and unexciting return unless they have reason to really believe Drury has break out upside remaining in his bat. I get that we weren't going to pull a top prospect, but it's tough to not come away with any of those high upside arms who could really come back to salt their onions down the line.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I think we have been expecting too much from a Happ trade, myself included. All things considered, though, this seems like a pretty decent deal. I guess if you're a dummy that doesn't like looking at underlying stats this trade sucks so you know...keep hating it I guess.
TheRustler Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 So today we landed Drury, McKinney and a new, below average troll. Great. I’m a troll because Brandon Drury doesn’t get me hard? f*** off.

What underlying stats are you looking at that says Drury is anything more than a replacement level utility guy. Serious question
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 So today we landed Drury, McKinney and a new, below average troll. Great. Don't forget Wall and Spanberger
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Drury isn't a terrible player, maybe he becomes a league average guy. But how is he any better than (a) what we already have in Solarte, Travis, Diaz, etc. or ( a player we could acquire via a small signing or trade in the offseason? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I’m a troll because Brandon Drury doesn’t get me hard? f*** off. As I said - below average.

TheRustler Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 As I said - below average. You’ve got absolutely nothing.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 What underlying stats are you looking at that says Drury is anything more than a replacement level utility guy. Serious question - hits ball hard - hits ball in the air - acceptable walk and strikeout rates - given the mixed bag of results, too early to write him off as a s***** defender It's not a stretch to believe he could be a average or even slightly above average player with proper coaching. It seems the Yankees have helped him be more selective at the plate as well.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 What underlying stats are you looking at that says Drury is anything more than a replacement level utility guy. Serious question He's hit at every level of the minors. His peripherals are good and he's only 25 with 3 years of control at a cheap price. initially I was underwhelmed when I looked at his surface stats, but I dont understand how people can look deep into his numbers and scouting profile and say he's truly awful. What in his numbers suggests he is truly a terrible baseball player? That seems to be more disappointment in the return rather than fair evaluation of the player.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Awesome we traded for Solarte 2.0 Now we have Solarte, Drury, Gurriel, Travis, Diaz, Urena, Bo, VLADITO, Biggio, Smith, etc....all probably within 1-2 years of being here. Plus we should have signed Donaldson if we were not trading him...yeah we are headed in the right direction lol I'm sure I missed a few as well
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 What underlying stats are you looking at that Steamer isn't? Exactly. The "value" of this return lies in a replacement level guy having a sudden breakout at age 26, and becoming an average player. Its not like we desperately need more IF depth.
TheRustler Verified Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 Really hope the Jays hang on to Osuna until he can rebuild his trade value at least. Seems to be a buyers market.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 I just can't fap to this deal at all.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2018 Posted July 26, 2018 What underlying stats are you looking at that Steamer isn't? What was Aaron Judge's steamer projection for his first season again? Was it a 180 wRC+? Drury is clearly still developing and everything is trending in the right direction. Sometimes players really do benefit bigly from better coaching. Unless you think Arizona is a better org than the Yanks for that sort of thing. You know, given how interesting the Yankees farm system is despite the fact that they almost always pick at the back of the draft.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
