I'd love for us to pick up Greg Holland as a FA (as soon his release goes through). Chances are we'll be pawning off a few relievers, and we could offer him high leverage spots to rebuild value the rest of the year for league min. Maybe if he pitches well in August, we can even trade him for something then.

I had the exact same thoughts as soon as I heard that he was released. But apparently he plans to sign with the first team that's in a playoff race that wants to use him.

I hope he likes the sound of crickets...

I still don't think there's any need to be shopping him at this point, we will need pitchers next year, and it's unlikely that his value drops considerably between now and the next trade deadline.

It's all about maximizing the return. I think we clearly see now that players with control net you the best return. If a team gets hims for the playoff run + 2 more years - that's worth more than trading him at the deadline next year when he'll only have 1 playoff run + a year of control.

If you want top prospects - you trade Stro. He's likely a FA by the time we are ready to compete for a playoff spot again anyways.

That's incredibly stupid on his part. If a contender DOES sign him, he'll likely get low leverage, inconsistent junk innings with a quick hook. It's unlikely he'll work his way out of the funk he's in that way.

I don't know that we've seen that... Who is being traded with control these days? What we've seen is that teams are being stingy in trades when it comes to using prospects to get established talent.

I would Try a package to Atlanta and ole AA

Stroman, Pillar , Donaldson and Martin to start also pay half of Martins remaining contract as well too !

Ask for Soroka, Minter , Allard and two of Either Davidson, Wilson or Ynoa and see if he bites ! Give all 3 and maybe we throw in loup

And Tepera ...lol !

Or Osuna if he Balks ! Hmmmmmmm

If the braves offered the blue jays this for Stroman would you take it?

Luiz Gohara, Joey Wentz, and Huascar Ynoa.

Yes, but mainly because I really like Gohara.

Down in Buffalo - McKinney pinch hit for Pompey in the 2nd inning. Then in the 3rd, Gift replaced Urshela.

Call ups to Toronto after soon-to-be-completed Granderson and Solarte deals?

Maybe, or maybe they're included in whatever trade.

More likely than anything, Pompey got hurt when he took a walk in the first inning.

I could see a definite fit with Atlanta. Atlanta is willing to trade Gohara to upgrade their pen and roster apparently. Let's say something like Estrada, Pompey, Tepera, Clippard, Solarte for Gohara? That pretty much ticks off all their needs, especially if we're willing to cover the money on Estrada who becomes a wildcard for them.

Doesn't seem likely that they can free up that much 40 man space or that they'd let us stack up lesser assets for that type of return.

I could see AA being the most likely to ignore Stro's struggles and make an aggressive offer.

Well, I'm trying to look from AA's potential perspective. He's seen first-hand what Estrada can do in the playoffs, and I'm pretty sure he was very high on Pompey. They're looking for BP help, which Tepera definitely provides and Clippard probably provides. Solarte gives them a bench bat with pop who can back up the infield, and is probably better suited to the NL anyway. I mean, I wouldn't do the trade if I was Atlanta, but I can see something like that being a non-zero possibility. 3 of the 5 guys have cheap controllability too.

I think our best chance at squeezing a high end piece out of these rentals at the deadline probably would have came from packaging Happ + Oh + Solarte, at this point I just can't see it. A team should be able to acquire equivalents to the majority of those pieces without having to go near the Gohara tier of their system.

Since he came off the DL he has been great

Yeah, I agree. If anyone was going to do a deal like that though, I could see it being AA given his potential attachment to a few of the players.

I'm sure Pompey is just coming up to replace Grandy. Maybe they're planning on calling up a few other guys to AAA, and needed the roster spot for Urshela. I don't really see a need for bringing him up here.

Martin, Maile, Smoak, Morales, Gurriel, Travis, Diaz, Drury, Hernandez, Grichuk, Smith, Pompey would give us 12 if Solarte and Granderson get dealt, so I guess Urshela could make sense as the seldom used bench IF.

That’s a laughably ridiculous trade.

The SJW's are going to win this one.

Disagree. He was a trade candidate regardless of the suspension and it probably makes him less likely to get traded.

Osuna should definitely be traded but only when he recoups some of his value. A year from now, when the DV stuff is in the rear view and he's racking up saves again, his value should increase. Selling now (unless a team is willing to give up the same value they would have if he wasn't in legal issues) is selling low and the Jays can't afford to lose value after what happened with JD.

Rogers is going to cater to the SJW hive. Publicly traded company that doesn’t care about baseball moves over optics. Bad combo. Hopefully Shatkins can either get a good deal or convince them to hold on to him until value increases.

Are they though? Maybe the SJW's in Toronto...but the SJW's in another city lose if he's traded there.

The only true losers will be the Jays if they trade him now.

This is a bogus narrative. Atkins isn't going to sell Osuna unless he gets a Top 50 type prospect, whether that happens now or next season. His trade value is not lower now than it will be a year from now, it's higher. Whatever team is looking to buy him wants him for this playoff run plus the additional years of control. His trade value is not affected by this suspension, all that matters is health, effectiveness, and years of control.

This team has no business hanging on to an elite reliever in its current shape. Osuna should be moved if they get anything resembling his pre-incident value.

I agree with this. A rebuilding team doesn't need an elite closer. And I would absolutely move him "IF" you can get full value for him.
