Pretty sure it would be us that would have to sweeten.

Yeah right. Vlad has the higher ceiling and is only ~2 years away himself. That trade would be retarded, and completely pointless.

I'll bite just because I'm curious. What exactly would be the "right offer" for Vladdy and Bo?

There is no "right offer" given the retool/rebuild ahead imo (also, no one will pay what they would cost as well imo)

If there's any way to get Tulo and his contract off the team, that would be great. Probably not possible without eating huge money though.

Can we bring in AA as a special consultant to deal with this situation?

Probably just better to wait. His value is at an alltime low and he's certainly better than this. Its not like the team desperately needs to shed salary, its one of the richest teams in the league.

He isn't a bad guy to keep around during a rebuild anyway, can be a leader/role model for some of the younger players. You do need someone like that especially if Donaldson, Martin and all the other older players get moved.

You'd probably have to swap Tulo for another really bad contract for a team looking for some help. If he could be play 3B maybe Red Sox would move Pablo Sandoval for him and we could be out of the bad contract after 2019 instead of 2020. It's not going to be worth it but maybe that speeds up the rebuild a bit? Might need a belt replacement program for him though. I'd rather keep him if it's that type of move we'd be looking at.

I think you'd find very few people share that view. Both are very good prospects though.

I don't really see anything in Tulo's stats to indicate he won't turn it around. One of the things that jump out at me is the slider. He's always been a pretty good slider hitter, and this year (SSS mind you), he's been awful. He's not pulling the ball as much either, which is probably causing the drop in his hard hit %.

Vlad is 18 years and 3 months old and already garnering "future best prospect in the game" discussion from virtually everyone who's seen him. By comparison, Meadows was only two MONTHS younger than Vlad is today when he was drafted. And suffice to say, he wasn't anywhere near this level of a prospect as an 18 year old. So yes, Vlad absolutely has a higher ceiling, due to his near flawless offensive profile (more walks than strikeouts at 18, plus bat speed and hand eye coordination, 70 grade power) which overrides whatever positional advantage Meadows has. The "gap" between Meadows and Vlad TODAY in terms of prospect ranking is virtually nonexistent, and Meadows is 4 years older.

This is why AA bolted when he did...the rebuild is going to be UGLY.

with the right pieces....the rebuilds can be fun and I suspect this one should be fun for a few yrs!

Whats ugly is trying to have a rebuild with no "real" prospects in the farm system!

I dont think wins and losses should equate to what is called an ugly rebuild!

There are some unmovable contracts on the Jays, which will make the rebuild difficult.

I would imagine Martin would get some interest as long as the Jays ate some salary. Martin at 13M per year is an excellent piece.

Tulo is the only real immovable contract and that isn't going to make it any harder to rebuild especially considering he isn't really blocking anyone yet. Unless you consider Urena a real prospect, but it looks like he might be the next Ryan Goins as opposed to a real starting SS

There's no point in moving Tulo when we'll have no salary on the books for the future anyways. If a team will take all his salary then fine but no one will do that. Just ride it out and hope he gets hot in his last year so you can deal him then.

He ha a full no trade clause too. There's probably only a select few teams he would want to be moved to. Might as well just keep him.

The rebuild can be fun. I'd rather watch a young team develop than an old team struggle.

What we have:

- The terror tandem of Bichette-Vald as future core

- future financial flexibility. The only long-term bad contract's Tulo's. So when the young core arrive in big league in 2-3 years, we'll tons of money to buy/acquire the missing pieces.

What we lack:

- elite prospects above A ball except Alford

- elite pitching propects

SRF is 21 yrs old in AA with a blistering fastball. Despite the mixed results this year, that's still an elite pitching prospect.

Well now you're just setting yourself up to debate the semantics of what constitutes an elite prospect and I'm not sure that what you define above meets what MOST would call elite which isn't to say he isn't a legit prospect.

Not quite sure I would put him in elite prospect status without even average command.

Once you reach the higher levels of the minors, you better start putting up some stats to back it up.

Someone like Brent Honeywell, or Triston Mckenzie is an elite prospect IMO, has the stuff, age factor and results combo that looks sexy.

He's still a legit prospect, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and say he's elite, he still has considerable command issues to overcome.

Does Pillar hold any value at all?

He does in reality, but teams don't pay big in trade for defense only players, regardless of how many wins they actually add with it. A 4 WAR all bat no d player would net far more in trade than a 4 WAR defender with no bat.

Rightly or wrongly, that's the mlb we live in

Everyone (including Vladdy and Bo) should be available for the right offer.

Yes, obviously. This is such an over used line on BJMB though. Of course you trade them for Mike Trout, but trading your two best prospects when rebuilding is imminent makes zero sense.
