reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Is anyone else in the camp of "they should just sign him?" At this point, he had plenty of time to test the market. If they're not going to sign Edwin, Bautista on a short contract would be pretty nice IMO.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Alright stop quoting this essay or I'm going to start banning people. Hurl on his way to best mod of 2017.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Hurl on his way to best mod of 2017. I'm the one that's been deleting King's posts. You want to change your vote?
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 You can get banned for quoting a post. That's a new one.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 nah gimme the pick There's no better feeling than feeling you have a chance to win the world series in 2022.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 You can get banned for quoting a post. That's a new one. For the most part I do not like over-zelous moderation that is like something out of China or North Korea. However it actually took me a long time to scroll though this thread, each quote of the original post, took several scrolls to get through on the phone and it was quite disruptive to my routine. So there is kind of a practical issue here. It is like the anti-Trump protesters. It is their right to convey all their thoughts through non-violent and non-disruptive means. However when they cause a traffic jam there is a practical reason to stop them.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Alright stop quoting this essay or I'm going to start banning people. After a night spent thinking over this super-post, I think there is more to it. Often times, when I feel that an injustice has been done, but am nervous about speaking out, I hide it in a very long facebook post. This is a compromise. I speak publicly but at the same time, it is hidden, so only true warriors will see it. Usually the undesirables don't have the attention span to read all the way. So I think Jaysfan4ever really was upset about the yankees facial policy. He describes himself as a 'a guy with long hair and a goatee' and I bet he has been bullied and persecuted because of his appearance. Potentially he has lost career opportunities because of persecution against woolly looking people. I bet he's very passionate about the issue and the super-post was his way of speaking out.

After three days thinking over this summary of the super-post, I think there's another level. Often times, when I see someone rambling on, others step up to defend them and make them feel better about their rambling coherence. I can picture Olerud being a thirteen year old in Spiderman underoos, unsure of who to protect with his heroic intent, finally being given a chance to champion the beset upon, as only a true warrior can.

Yah he says stupid s*** top the media but I don't think I've ever heard of a player not liking him.

Governator Community Moderator Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Not sure if posted? According to industry sources, Toronto has remained unwilling to offer Bautista more than the $17.2 million qualifying offer that he declined last month. The slugger continues to search for a multiyear deal, but he won't be getting it from the Blue Jays. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/210987338/jose-bautista-unlikely-to-return-to-blue-jays/

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 It's pretty silly. If you want to chase money that's fine, but when its' clearly not out there, just take the 17 million to play in a city that you like and is a world series contender. Beltran, Holliday and Ortiz just took short term deals over and over again to close out their careers.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 The qualifying offer is killing Jose's value. If the Jays move on, then he'll be settling for a short deal somewhere else.

Ray Verified Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Jose is literally the only good power bat left except Edwin, and there's no point in signing Edwin at this point. I hope we haven't moved on from him. Why do I get the feeling that we're going to end up with Ben Revere and Jay Bruce when it's all said and done.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Win win for Shapiro By getting Bruce they will spend the payroll $$ plus he gets to say we tried to sign Edwin and Fowler Probably some reliever in there too middle of the road type
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 The qualifying offer is killing Jose's value. If the Jays move on, then he'll be settling for a short deal somewhere else. His injuries and age have killed his value, the QO is more like a nail in his value coffin. Thing is, Bautista has had the unfortunate timing of being a late breakout star. As a result he never had his prime years when he was 22-28 and command that massive FA payday that players crave. Instead, he broke out late out of nowhere and signed what turned out to be a very team friendly contract that took well into what is normally a players decline of their career.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 He really hates Bautista. He does? Isn't that exactly what's happening?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 FFS just give him 2-3 years. Again, one year removed from near .400 wOBA and 40 HR. He's still potentially an elite bat.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 There's absolutely no reason to give him the 3rd year anymore. Turner just signed for $16M and he's a far superior player. 2 years $30M is about as high as we should go for Jose. Nobody else in baseball is going to give him that much + a draft pick. He has no options left. His arrogance backfired immensely.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 It looks like the team is placing a lot of value on the 1st round pick.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
