RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 I heard Morales and Pearce hate the front office, too. I'm sure Morales had multiple multi year offers just look at the deals superior hitters to him like Beltran and Holliday got Lmao Morales was probably shocked as f*** at the offer and signed right away
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 No joke, I actually know someone who knows Dexter Fowler's barber and he said this was a relevant factor. Stro and Bautista talked to Dex at the white party they were all at a week ago and the feeling Dex got was that Toronto's front office is pretty cold and ambivalent about the players. That's just what I heard through the grape vine. That's awesome. I knew it had to be a factor. They do come across as cold and ambivalent. They think they can win a World Series by reading a few Stephen Covey books. They will run this franchise into the ground.

Some line about being a win/win "altrupeneur" and "talking straight, building trust, and overdelivering"..... I can't remember exactly what the line is. No jokes.

IE: None of this was a "factor" at all. He signed with the team that gave him way more money than any other, just like he would have signed here had we given him the most money. Like, you realize that he signed with the franchise that told Albert Pujols "thanks bro, cya later" while he was still in his actual perceived prime LOL.

I have it on good authority that he had issues with both teams. Money talked but who's to say how much it would have talked if he was actually attracted to the culture of the Blue Jays? The culture turned him off so all that was left to consider was the money. I think the bigger issue here is that Stroman is going negative PR on the sly for Toronto. Trade him to Colorado before this gets any worse.
TorontonianJD Verified Member Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Interesting if Stroman did say that. We'll never know for sure. Wonder what JD thinks of this regime? OT but according to this Tulo has bought a home in Toronto: http://m.edmontonsun.com/2016/12/10/simmons-says-puzzling-start-to-important-blue-jays-off-season
Driveof85 Verified Member Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Well, I guess Stro calls it like he sees it. I'm also interested to know what JD and TT think of this offseason so far. Was there ever any issue with EE's character or work ethic in the clubhouse?

Edwin winning the team-polled MVP award with 90% of the vote might suggest he's also a popular and respected hombre in the clubhouse.

Was there ever any issue with EE's character or work ethic in the clubhouse? EE shed the character issues years ago. No concerns there. The players are still confident in the team. From what I gather though (I know a couple of lower level employees so take this FWIW) some of the players can't help but compare this front office to AA's team. The Shatkins group, to be blunt, is less player friendly. There's a lot of new-age stuff like mental coaches etc. that make certain players roll their eyes. AA had also built a lot of trust that he would do whatever it took to win in any given season and players don't feel the same way about Shapiro and Atkins. I heard that Jose has essentially NO interest in coming back to Toronto largely because of the new culture. You'll notice that Jose's agent is actually reaching out to other teams like Boston and Baltimore - he's desperate to get out of town. Again, take this all FWIW which shouldn't be much. Just rumours.

Fowler was given a lot of money by a good team and he took it.
