No more Goins at 2B when Travis is hurt

With his age and injury history I can't see him playing 2nd even if Travis goes on the DL. Maybe in a pinch late in the game but Inside Edge said his defense was pretty terrible there last year so even without the injury history I'm not sure its a great idea. Should be above average at 1st which is good though!

I do await the rage when Gibby benches Pearce though.

Kill joy.

That depresses me because I know you're right.

Edwin put up 5 straight years huge offensive years averaging 145ish games a year of production. I'd rather commit 4 years at 20+ million than having the smoak and pearce show. I'd feel much better if we had Lind and pearce going into next season. The smoak signing was a bad one. I remember people saying how we had to have Jeff Baker to platoon with Lind and Jeff Baker crashed and burned. Pearce has never played a full season and missed the end of last season due to injury. Projecting what he will do comes with a far greater range and margin of error than what EE will do next year. Pearce could play tremendously well and post an .850 OPS next year. I hope he does, but he could also post a .700 OPS.

Why on God's green earth are you comparing Pearce to Edwin?

Great signing, but I am still not impressed with the morales signing. That money should have gone to EE or a high end reliever.

Never spend big money on a reliever more times then not i would say you would regret.

1B, corner OFs.

2B and 3B in a pinch... super utility period, love this signing, most have been begging for it and they got it done, this truly made my day.

Yup Plus I hope this signals a end or the dumping of both Smoak/Upton from this team also! Please please please Shatkins!

Ugh I regret reading the Facebook comments on this signing.

Why would anyone read the Jays facebook page?

lol I was just reading them.

One guy talking about Salary Cap space and a woman ranting "absolute shame that fans who keep this club in business have no say or influence".

On the flip side of that, they have often benched Dyson in favour of inferior players. Maybe that's just Yost, but it's possible that they don't fully recognize his value (or we overrate him).

Agreed, if they valued him, he'd have played a lot more, there's no way the ask is Estrada or Liriano, not for a second I believe that... if that's the ask they can keep him.

Pearce at 1B vs LHP, corner outfield vs RHP, for now anyway. Nice signing.

And with Morales able to take some starts at 1B vs righties, that should mean we don't need to start Smoak for more than about 60 games barring injuries of course.

These guys aren't going anywhere B, unless they're throw ins on trade.

Don't like this move. It's okay if he's a bench bat, but he hasn't had 400 PA in a season before and is 34. If he's relied upon to be an everyday player, that's Rays-esque... i.e. something a potential contender like the Jays shouldn't be doing.

We'll have to wait and see what else they do to fully judge the signing, though.

Here are some from SN.

33 years old and a righty. I thought managment said they were prioritzing youth and lefties? I dont mind this signing as Pearce is a valuable utility guy but I scratch my head at what management says and then their actions

My concern is his splits look good but his over all batting avg is not. Plus he only played just over half of the season.

Rogers and the Cleveland Management are cheap and have no loyalty to Edwin who they were underpaying from a market value perspective for years or the fans. Rogers are clearly not interested in winning and now Edwin likely becomes a Yankee. Sickening!

A splash into what ? The shallow end ??

Open up your wallets Rogers !!! Let's play with the big boi's!!!

The kind of cheaping out signing I've always knew Shapiro and Atkins liked.... boooo!

13 homers and 35 rbis to replace edwin? wtf?

Um in the words of Connor McGregor.....

**WHO THE FOOK IS THIS GUY** ??

We now have two Justin Smoak

He's not worth 6 million a year.

This is not a splash it's an accidental drowning. Sure he can play anywhere.....hoping its to help platoon with Smoak because this guy isn't "the guy" we need. He's a good backup and has a little pop in his bat but isn't going to replace 65-75 homers or the 200+ rbi's Edwin and Jose were cashing in......replaces Saunders maybe but bring back Ben revere and possibly rajai if you want to up the stakes. Speed on lead off and at 6-7 in the lineup. Bullpen help much needed too

Get ready for the 15 thousand fans per game. What a joke

Wait as long as you can Mr. Roger's, then all the good players will be gone.

He stole zero bases, he can’t lead off.

Who cares if he can draw walks, Jays need players who can hit.

If he's healthy he's playing...

Rays-esque is an objective compliment in baseball eh
