Dear Lord

I'll show my way out.

Just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't make him or her an idiot. Go and et some sensitivy training

You're calling Pearce a depth addition, and as things currently stand he'd be our best starting option at three different positions. He's here to be a key contributor, even if he does move around the diamond.

I proposed this idea with Bautista in mind but it absolutely works for Pearce as well.

1B - Pearce takes the majority of starts against LHP, Smoak and Morales split the starts against RHP.

LF - Pearce against RHP (with Carerra taking the odd start), Upton vs LHP.

DH - Majority of games to Morales but the 30+ starts he has at 1B allow for other vets to DH on off days (Martin, Tulo, Donaldson etc)

I won't post an estimate of how many games they'd each play because last time I think it gave BBBB an ulcer.

Look at you learning and growing, see when you don't assign unrealistic games played to players to it, it in fact makes your post a theory and more believable! Much better and on the money penny old chap!

The key here is that we're not paying him like a star. We just need him to put up about 1.5 WAR combined the next 2 seasons to make the deal worthwhile. Maybe his body breaks down and we don't get that, but in worst case, it's not a lot of money spent (barely more than we're wasting on Smoak). And he has the potential to be a solid player, in which case he could be the steal of the off-season. And as well, this also means that if Tellez forces his way into the lineup this year, Pearce can either shift over to the OF, or even just go to being a platoon bat/PH, and we're not paying him enough to feel guilty about doing that.

Agreed- If he plays 100 games next season the projections say that nearly everything he does in year 2 of the deal will be surplus value.

Haha take it for what you want, but honestly it was just a dig at you not be able to focus on that actual point of my post.

I dont understand why people cant just accept this as a good depth signing. Pearce could be a piece but he is definitely not a component.

Take one of those component. Thanks

lol first thing I see logging in to twitter, this is why I stay far away from social media

@Wilnerness590 @LottOnBaseball does the Pearce signing mean that Justin Smoak has just become our everyday first baseman?

3 posistions ?

As things stand Pearce would be our best option to start at 1B or either corner OF, but obviously we need to add a starting RF still.

Sources: The Jays and Steve Pearce agree to a two-year, $12.5 million deal.

I'm through my bottle of Jergens now and can say I think it's short sighted to rely on Pearce as a key contributor. We still have holes to fill. I LOVE the signing, but ideally, Pearce is a complimentary player who's expected to see 350-400 at bats at a number of different positions. If injuries strike (or he plays so well you can't take him out of the lineup) and may have the ability to give us 550-600 PA's, but I'm not sure we should head into the season expecting it.

Trade for Dyson, sign Fowler, problem solved.

I was just about to post some of the Sportsnet comments, partially so people can realize that our idiots aren't even the biggest idiots. There are also some that are looking for a response and people shouldn't complain if they are the ones responding to them. I'll wait for those comments though.

But even in those 350-400 ABs, he could outproduce some of our other starters who see 500+ ABs, that makes him a key contributor regardless.

Does anyone know what KC wants in return for Dyson? They've built their team in part around OF defence, so I think they understand his value very well. They probably see this as well the last year of their window, so they probably ask for Estrada or something, as they can use the rotation help. I don't think he'll be cheap.

Steve strikes me as a PEDs fella as well as less injury prone (see PEDs).

This is the reason you don't like Pearce?

From the baseball experts that I've consulted with, many of them feel that being less injury prone is a positive.

I was talking about you somehow being under impression that anyone else on the forum understands the distinction you make between a piece and a component.

Especially when Pearce is clearly a cog.

Yeah I don't think Dyson comes very cheap. He's a damn good player despite the injuries. I think you're right, they would want Estrada or Liriano or something.

On the flip side of that, they have often benched Dyson in favour of inferior players. Maybe that's just Yost, but it's possible that they don't fully recognize his value (or we overrate him).

Love the signing. 12 Million for 2 years is barley above bench player money. I don't think I would start him in the Outfield at RC given hisinjury history but he should start most games at 1st/DH and the odd game in LF/RF when they play in Fenway/Yankee Stadium.

I hope it works out but I have never liked Steve Pearce. I would rather have had Moreland. Replacing EE Homers by committee.

Big committee...Might need one to replace JoBau's homers too.

I do await the rage when Gibby benches Pearce though.

"Do you like working, John? Okay, great. We love having you here too. Just remember we didn't sign Steve to only start against the Cesar Ramoses of the league."
