glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 God damn the Sportsnet comments section is a cesspool.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 I hope it works out but I have never liked Steve Pearce. I would rather have had Moreland. Replacing EE Homers by committee. Even if you don't like Pearce, why do you like Moreland?
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Hurl should honestly be banned for posting those SN quotes.
intrigid Verified Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 If the Jays signed Pearce to a 6/200 million contract, almost every one of the Sportsnet comments would be a jerkoff fest, celebrating Rogers for opening their wallets and making a big splash.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 No more Goins at 2B when Travis is hurt Isn't Goins out of options? He's not going to make the 25 if everyone is fit to start the season (assuming we sign at least 1 more player i.e. an OF) and someone would likely claim him off waivers to be a defensive utility guy at a low cost.

Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and shop him around right now for a bullpen candidate of some sort.

He was worth -1 WAR last year, with a 38 wRC+. Nobody's claiming him.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Jays at 13 hitters, no one having options (well Travis and Pillar but they aren't relevant here). Who is the first to go when they make their next signing? Zeke, Goins...trade?
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 He was worth -1 WAR last year, with a 38 wRC+. Nobody's claiming him. I doubt we'd get anything significant in a trade, but he'd be a cheap pickup on waivers for a team looking for a late game defensive sub and to cover 2B/SS. The Rays for example.

Who is the first to go when they make their next signing? Zeke, Goins...trade? Goins. Barney makes him completely redundant. And even if he weren't redundant, he's very, very bad at baseball.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and shop him around right now for a bullpen candidate of some sort. Goins is pretty much the definition of replacement level, I don't think we should expect to get anything back for him, definitely not someone who has any kind of upside at not being terrible.
puphood Verified Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Signed another injured player for 6/yr who maybe ready for spring training and more than likely around 100 + games? Potential is there but......FO going on the cheap again.....

I definitely wouldn't expect much in return, a AAAA arm who has a shot at cracking the bullpen.

Joshtowers Verified Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Worst signing ever. We were suppose to get better not worse. This guy is a bench and backup player not an everyday outfielder.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Don't like this move. It's okay if he's a bench bat, but he hasn't had 400 PA in a season before and is 34. If he's relied upon to be an everyday player, that's Rays-esque... i.e. something a potential contender like the Jays shouldn't be doing. We'll have to wait and see what else they do to fully judge the signing, though. When the Rays relied on him as an every day player, he put up a 150 wRC+.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Goins no longer in the organization is ideal. I will feel so much better if another organization actually claimed him. I don't even want him on the Bisons.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 Quit trolling. He'd been warned before. I just removed. It's not like you have to make a decision on players now. But I hate to see roles given before Spring Training ends. Zeke, Goins not having options and the salaries of Smoak and Upton hopefully won't play into the Jays seeking upgrades still.
