Well said. Someone, or several people, should tweet these to Stroman.

He's talking about Frozennutz, everything going over your head tonight, bro.

whooosh just one of those days

Stroman probably won't even see that. I think he's backed away from the pitching to contact stuff. He hasn't said it in a while and he's dropped the 2 seam usage.

And he doesnt have to abandon it, just has to figure out a better mix. He has the skill and all the pitches he needs to be succesful

Someone should but whoever does might catch the block button.

Does anyone know if there's been an increase in FB% (from hitters) over the past 2-3 years? It seems more hitters realise they do more damage by getting the ball in the air. On the flip side, teams love pitchers with high GB% and we all know slight uppercut swings are ideal for combating sinkers. This is pure speculation on my part, but I'm curious if anyone knows the stats on it.

Not a huge fan of Dirk but agree with most of what he said.

Looking at these 2014 Stro highlights I see:

Stro with mojo

Location mix

14% use of filthy CB

4S FB use setting up the breaking ball. (this pitch was thrown 44% 2014 and 2016 7%)

GB% of 53 - excellent

He also threw a lot harder then. A bunch of 84 and 85 MPH curveballs in that video. This year its 80-82.

Yup. everything slower. Avg FB down 1.5 MPH (probably because of 2S increase) and CB 2.5 MPH slower avg.

I wonder if this is his new approach or the knee injury changed his ability to create more V? You wouldn't think it would but I have no idea.

Fatigue ??? Remember he has thrown

Almost 3 times the innings this year

of competitive ball. Maybe we should be moving him to the pen with Shanchez as well. Shanchez pitched more competitive innings then him last year too almost 3 times more, in fact!

And if it's good for him why is Stroman not looked at the same by the organization ? You know Shanchez added 25lbs of muscle!!! Lol

MLB.com: What are some of those adjustments you asked Marcus to make?

Atkins: Really, it's just looking at ways to adjust his usage. His stuff is very similar, so we've looked at different ways that he could be more innovative with his pitch usage and how he's attacking hitters. I feel like we failed him in that we haven't been able to find that right niche for him, because the stuff is there, the athleticism is there, the competitiveness is there and I think it will correct.

For sure man. I still feel sick watching those videos and comparing it to current Stroman.

I blame Buerhle and Walker for putting that "pitch to contact" ******** in his head to begin with.

Wrong. If a FB V number incorporates all his FBs, including the much higher % of 2S FBs he now throws, obviously the avg FB V will go down because he doesn't throw the 2S as hard as the 4S. Its really not that difficult to understand.

His 2S FB is actually a tick higher in V this year than last and only a little bit lower than 2014. There is a larger drop in V on his 4S FB compared to 2014.

My post was about the reason for the overall drop in V.

True, and I think the larger decrease with the 4SM may actually be do to the systems wrongfully classifying 2SM as 4SM since he throws so few of them now, and tosses many high 2SM that lose that vertical movement.

By across the board he means pitch by pitch, so SL, CU and CH as well as all 3 fastball types.
