GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 It's not like what I was saying was off the mark or anything. It's frustrating and pointing out easily correctable flaws in his approach, I would think, is more tolerable than trolling pessimism like "Stroman is horrendous and has no future" or "Stroman is Ricky Romero" when they are nothing alike. Well sure it's better than that and you obviously have good intentions but I think a higher standard can be held than Dogg, or BB. Or worse, me. It just got extremely repetitive. I heard he was missing spot or sending it right over the middle. I'm blaming it on the f***ing horrifying father's day jerseys. Just terrible
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 IDGAF what annoys you, if you're that annoyed or perhaps enamored with my posts, maybe you should put me on ignore? Good idea.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 reminds me of hutch last year. Everyone would fap over his fip but was actually just pitching trash. stroman is no different. id rather see hutch up here right now for a couple starts and let stroman fix his mechanics in triple a I'm sorry, what mechanical adjustments are you suggesting he make here, exactly? Because that seems like a nice way of covering up "his ERA is bad let's send him down."

Just terrible Yeah, you're right. I guess I just get super frustrated because I actually really like Stroman, and I'm just super pissed because in every interview I read/see of him, it seems that he's deliberately doing things that run counter-productive to his vast potential. I want to vent about it, but I'm not going to call him a "waste of space" like some do, I just expect better, like some weird baseball fan father figure lol. And yeah, those jerseys were something nightmares are made of.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 It would be different if we didn't have more options We have so many its difficult to imagine starting Stroman again this season

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2016 Author Posted June 19, 2016 Stro leads majors giving up 104 balls hit over 99 MPH on exit V. Just getting rocked. Hope he can find it. We need him.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 The OPS on his 3 worst pitches this year are as follows: 2SM - .804 CH - .830 Cut - .892 The OPS on his 4SM fastball, Curve, and Slider: 4SM - .724 CU - .556 SL - .384 What this should tell everyone is obvious, Stroman should only throw the 4SM fastball and throw way more breaking balls.
Cyborg Verified Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Pitch selection actually was good today, just missed some spots and when he did it was hit.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Pitch selection actually was good today, just missed some spots and when he did it was hit. Not sure I'd agree with that. Outside of 1 inning plus maybe 2 other PAs, he was still throwing far too much 2SM and throwing many of them in 0-2/1-2 counts and getting smashed for it, as per usual.
BTS Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I wonder if he's apprehensive about throwing his 4-seam fastball in the zone because he's lost 1-2 mph on it from a couple of years ago. Isn't his effective velocity lower than his actual velocity because of his height?
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I think the biggest question is, what's the best way to get through to Stroman? The way it is playing out is best. He is getting rocked because he can't locate the fastball. Probably because of the movement keeps taking it over the plate to righties. Once he gets it in his head the pitch type and philosophy is not working for him...hopefully he makes the change. Hopefully that's today.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 sooo are we still saying he is unlucky, or does he truly suck this year? or is he just stubborn and being incredibly predictable? Or all of the above? I feel like we have another 2015 Loup on our hands. Good peripherals but s***** numbers throughout the year.

Isn't his effective velocity lower than his actual velocity because of his height? I've heard mixed things on this. There's an article out there saying that his stretch in his delivery actually has his effective velo higher than his actual. I do wonder if his rigorous workout schedule took it's toll on his arms. Too much muscle can actually reduce velocity.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Still think Shanchez stole his Mojo!!!
Stoneyen Verified Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I mean he still has a FIP and xFIP under 4 and the projections expect it to be even lower and he's pitched a ton of innings too. No reason to send him down at all

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) Is Stroman actually getting hit hard or are people overreacting to bip luck? His ratios are fine E: Just got home and haven't watched yet His talent is the same as 2015, with his luck inverted. Big talent change (apparently) since 2014 though.... f*** this two-seamer. I wish he would just go back to painting with his 4 seamer. His command and control are naturally good enough that he doesn't NEED the movement and sink. Where is the pitching coach? Where is the overhead analytics? Edited June 20, 2016 by Laika

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Why can Shatkins fix Sanchez but not Stro Racism??? I actually think Sanchie just sucked the life force from Stroman this offseason. That's all they did. Kind of gay.

Isn't his effective velocity lower than his actual velocity because of his height? Yeah, that's a fact. The ball has further to travel before it reaches the plate so hitters have more time to identify the pitch.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I think it might be a good idea to give Hutchison a couple of starts and let Stroman work out his troubles in the bullpen. Reducing his arsenal to 2 or 3 pitches might help him to simplify things and get his confidence back. If Hutchison performs, they can eventually swap Stroman and Sanchez.
