GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I wonder if the Rays would move three years of Smyly to address the fact that their offense is f***ing garbage. Probably a moot point, because who would waive 10-5 to go to TB? That'd be trape. Silverman would never. Smyly's periphs are sexyyyyyyyy. That's the least Rays move out there imo. Here's a filtered list of 28> starters that posted less than 3.5 WAR last year min 50 IP. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=sta&lg=all&qual=50&type=8&season=2015&month=0&season1=2015&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=14,28&filter=33915&players=0 Erasmo, Odorizzi, Cashner, Eovaldi, Richards, Nelson are all very interesting. Don't think they're realistic though

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't even know who honestly. Bautista's value is probably $20m and Edwin's value is probably $13m and I can't see Bau getting traded. A $13m pitcher isn't that valuable (if that $13m is over 3 years or whatever). Bautista's value is a lot higher than 20 million? Or are you talking AAV on his next contract, cuz that would make sense.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Bautista's value is a lot higher than 20 million? Or are you talking AAV on his next contract, cuz that would make sense. No, it isn't. 4ish WAR * 8m/win = $32m. Minus 14m salary. $18m surplus value. Very valuable rental player. That's it.

Oh surplus value. You never said that lol. If Shapiro thought the FA market was 9-10M/win back in 2012 I'm sure Bautista's value would be much higher in his eyes.
Slugger Verified Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Merchandise sales are MLB profits not team oriented I was being casual fan stand in, clearly.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I'm pretty f***ing excited for the Shapiro era, you guys. Will be interesting to bump this thread in 5 years thats for sure.
Slugger Verified Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't like how fired up you guys are about trading Edwin or Jose.
FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Chris Davis at 15 per year for 4 years?
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Wonder if he will try to sign Travis to a team friendly extension. The shoulder injury was a little scary but if you got him Yan Gomes money the reward would be massive. Seems signing guys early in their careers is Shapiro's MO. Could do the same with Stroman but he would obviously be a lot more expensive.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I'll bet anyone $20 that EE and Jose are Jays come opening day. They aren't going to waive their 10/5 rights.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I'll bet anyone $20 that EE and Jose are Jays come opening day. They aren't going to waive their 10/5 rights. Even with potential extension offers?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 This post is drivel Thanks for the insight. You're being a total jerk. I'll take this to the advanced stats thread. You are implying there's no defensive penalty for playing left field. It seems ridiculous. However if it's true explain it nicely and in detail. Complete *******.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 This post is drivel Are you saying Revere can contribute just as much as a left fielder?? It's acceptable to be a jerk but explain to us commoners why players can contribute just as much in left field as center?? Does it hold for other positions?? Can Ryan Goins contribute just as much as a first basemen?? If Ben Revere doesn't get penalized for playing left, would Ryan Goins get a penalty for playing first?? He'd be way better then all the other statues at first, wouldn't he??
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 I don't like how fired up you guys are about trading Edwin or Jose. I think the only one "fired up" about moving these two is GeorgiaPeach and he has been consistent, if nothing else, for about 3 yrs now. He fancies himself to be the one member of a true race of superior and elite baseball connoisseurs. I think that most fans, including even casuals, will reluctantly accept moving them (assuming they waive veto) based on a number of important considerations that have been mentioned ad nausea.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 That's the dumbest trade offer I've ever heard and I've read all of BBBBs. Delete your account. Don't make me have to come to Winterpeg!

If you'll look at the chart in the following link, you'll see that there is virtually no difference in offensive production between left fielders and center fielders, while shortstop to first base is a huge difference. There used to be a bit of a gap, but that has changed as teams realize that the Chris Colabello's of the world shouldn't play the outfield. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/3/27/5551568/position-by-position-offense-is-trending-together http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/3/27/5551568/position-by-position-offense-is-trending-together

BTS Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 He is going to get 5/100 min $ from someone. I bet he gets closer to 150 than 100. Monster bats like that don't really ever hit the market.

So there used to be no gap, then it changed, then it changed again. Long term centerfield has ranged from 94-101, left field 99-110. Seems like an ordinary random variable. Beyond that, teams aren't perfectly efficient. Fangraphs doesn't use offense alone for positional adjustment. http://www.fangraphs.com/library/misc/war/positional-adjustment/

If this is wrong then write them. Have them change it. Then have them post on our board. Fangraphs - "Just a quick note to you guys. One of your members Grant77 pointed out that our adjustment for left field is wrong. We fixed it in our formulas. Ben Revere is now projected for 2 WAR next year thanks to Grant77 and his insight. Cheers to Grant! - yours truly Fangraphs"

fireballW Verified Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Shapiro was almost certainly hired to come in and slash. Only now because of what AA did do we have a chance to keep our payroll. AA really saved us from another 3 or 4 years of retooling.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Even with potential extension offers? Like the Dickey situation? No, I can't see them agreeing to an extension somewhere they get traded to without testing the market.

You are implying there's no defensive penalty for playing left field. It seems ridiculous. However if it's true explain it nicely and in detail. Complete *******. You've got it backwards. If Kevin Kiermaier was to move from playing CF to LF he'd actually be rewarded defensively for the switch. His numbers would break the scale because he's that much better than the rest of the LF's playing. And offensively positions do not matter. You're compared against everyone.
