BTS Community Moderator Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 This is good news. They can afford a couple of starters on short-term 15M contracts.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 That's better than it going down I guess, but I'm a little surprised to see payroll remain stagnant for the third consecutive year.

Pretty much in line with expectations of around $140-150M. Still gives us enough to get a pitcher or two.. but I don't expect Price back.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I wonder what Zimmer and Kaz could fetch both in years and dollars? I'd rather grab both of them instead of Price, try and trade Dickey/Revere/+ for Ross (AJ may bite given who he is), and then use an Osuna/Hendriks combo in the 5th spot. Stroman Zimmerman Ross Kazmir Osuna/Kendriks ^ This could be something special.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Dickey/Revere/+ is not getting you Ross lol
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Dickey/Revere/+ is not getting you Ross lol I think there's also next to no chance Shapiro is in on Zimmermann based on everything we know about him.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Dickey/Revere/+ is not getting you Ross lol You do realize who we would be dealing with right? It's not nearly as unfathomable as your "lol" suggests.

STFU, we've seen much more lopsided trades such as the Donaldson and Kemp trades, and, as I said, given who the trade partner would be, it's possible.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 140 isn't the end of the world but was hoping for higher. It will be enough to add some FA's but we will probably need to make some trades as well.

It's pretty unfathomable. Downgrading from two years of Ross to one year of Dickey is a huge loss. Ben Revere has no real value, and definitely doesn't put a dent in making up the difference.

Final payroll will not be 125 million in 2015 when you add in the deadline guys, it will be about 140. That makes it relatively stagnant for 3 years (2013 has nothing to do with what I said). I'm not complaining, just a little surprised.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I kind of think he gets like 6/120 or something. I thought he had a significant velocity drop and was awful? But now I looked at his stats and he was pretty much around career averages, did he have a very good second half?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I'm not sure where you got the numbers from and what is correct, but Cot's baseball contracts has the payroll as 137 million in 2013 and it was roughly 140 million this year, though they don't have the final numbers up yet. That's Cott's. 2014 = 10M increase from 2013 2015 = ~5M increase from 2014 2016 = possibly stagnant for the first time, but a lot of questions remain. If it starts in that range, maybe it goes up?

If it starts in that range, maybe it goes up? Yes, I see that now, the 2 numbers and different years caught me off guard for a moment. My take on it was that payroll will have been roughly 140 million for 3 consecutive years if this is correct. There's many ways to look at it. I don't have any complaints, but I reserve the right to if we continue to see 20+ sellouts and it doesn't start to go up again in future years.

Ben Revere has no real value, and definitely doesn't put a dent in making up the difference. I think Revere has value to a non-saber guy like AJ, it's certainly possible, not likely, but possible nonetheless. If that "+" was Sanchez, for instance (whom I doubt Shapiro values), it could heighten the chances. It's impossible. Stop being a blind homer. You would have said the same of the Donaldson and Kemp trades, yet..

Revere should have real value to any team, to say nothing of your trade proposals. He's as consistent as you can be as a 2 WAR player, is young, and is under control for 2 years. Many SABR guys are currently entranced by the Steamer projections, but it is way off base and the other systems will be more optimistic. The fact that we gave up real prospects to acquire him also indicates his value.

In retrospect it was a rip off because Donaldson put up 8.8 WAR and Lawrie like 1 -- their projections were more like 5-2 Then there were 3 other very young players headed to Oakland... one of them Franklin Barretto is only 19, tore up a-ball, and might be playing 2nd base as a 21 year old in Oakland in 2017 The Padres would want young, highly controllable talent for Ross, I presume something like Alford and Osuna -- or Pompey and Sanchez.
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 How the f*** is this good news? Did any of u actually think theyd dare lower payroll after that season? Im pissed. Anything less than 150 will have me furious.
