It without a doubt will not influence a thing. If you can sign an MVP caliber player for a rate the FO deems reasonable they will, regardless of how amazing Vlad continues to be.

Cocksmoker.

It will influence what the FO is willing to pay for JD's services, at least.

If you don't understand that, you don't understand how business decisions are made. And these are business decisions, not baseball decisions.

Business decisions like keeping an MVP who puts asses in the seats as long as he comes at a price that the decision makers are willing to pay?

Sit down old man you're far too senile.

A decision on JD is not made in isolation. Jays are paying Martin and Tulo for a while yet, sign JD long term for $30M a year and one of Stro or Sanchez may no longer be affordable. There are numerous considerations / influences on the JD decision, what kind of offers they get from other teams, and yes, that a guy named Vladdy may be ML ready in late 2018, for $500,000 a year.

As good as Vlad has been its like he's a sure bet to stick at 3rd base anyway.

Of course. This debate is only whether Vlad has any influence on a JD decision. He does.

So never acknowledge a change in talent or improvement? With Jansen there are two factors for not taking too much stock in his early numbers.

1. Injuries to the hands (2015 and 2016)

2. Wisconsin (his prep years were spent in a region where he would not have faced very good pitching)

I'm not ready to anoint him a starter or even a major leaguer but I think you have to look at this year as great progression.

If you judge him by his career stats, you are still acknowledging his improvement, as it is in the career stats.

Think about it this way, if he was a career .340 .420 .500 milb hitter, we'd all be anointing him as a star. Most knowledgeable fans, are just acknowledging that he is now interesting.

He's a career .270 .360 .400 hitter with great k-bb ratio. That itself isn't bad. Actually his minor numbers aren't that different than Russel Martin

You joke but look at how it turned Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughan's career around!

Teoscar Hernandez, OF, Toronto (Profile)

Level: Triple-A Age: 24 Org Rank: 4 Top 100: HM

Line: 4-for-5, 2 HR, 3B

Notes

Hernandez has a strong all-around skillset that simply couldn’t crack a talented and crowded big-league outfield in Houston. While some scouts consider Hernandez a viable defender in center field (impressive considering he was an amateur infielder) he generally gets projected to a corner and is very likely to play left or right in Toronto with Kevin Pillar under team control until 2021. He has the hit/power combination to profile there. Despite utilizing no leg kick or stride, Hernandez is able to generate power to all fields purely through rotation and bat speed. He hit both home runs and his triple to right-center field last night. He and Anthony Alford look like they’re going to be effective and exciting young bookend outfielders.

Pearson is a stud, it was glaringly evident in the f***ing youtube videos.

He's going to make a lot of people eat their shorts. Lots of people didn't like the pick much.

I never understood the hate? I understand caution because of the surgery he had, but the guy is huge, generates easy high 90s velocity, has great control, and K'd a ton in school.

He was always a top guy for me.

I wanted Carlson, but was happy with Pearson.

Did they shut him down? He's only pitched 2 IP in rookie ball, and last pitched in mid July. Hopefully he didn't injure himself.

Injured (elbow), he's due back anyday now, assuming you mean Carlson.

Holy s***.

I have memories of guys like this, still hanging around in the late 80s, when I first started following baseball. My recolection is that really low k and bb rates were common then. Though maybe my memory is playing tricks on me. The only guy I could find that was comparable, was Bill Buckner

You could also see the potential of the secondaries even in videos. And his mechanics are SUBLIME and I do not say that lightly.

He is striking out like crazy since the trade though. Hopefully it is just SSS and being away from the PCL messing him up a bit. He's been a lot better over the last 10 games (still 27% k% over that span).

It is a small sample, if he K's at 25% with a 10% BB rate that's fine.

Nate is #1 on the BA HOT SHEEEEEEEEET

1. Nate Pearson, RHP, Blue Jays (21)

Short-season Vancouver (Northwest)

Coming into this year’s draft out of the JC of Central Florida, Pearson was seen was one of the hardest-throwing pitchers in this year’s draft class. He’s lived up to every expectation so far. Kept on short pitch limits (a 60-pitch outing this week is his only outing with more than 50 pitches), Pearson has been unhittable. He’s working on a 10-inning hitless streak and the next run Pearson allows will be his first as a pro. He’s also hit triple digits on the radar gun while dominating.
