  1. Pederson would be an alright add depending on cost. I just don’t love committing so many ABs to one guy at DH if he’s gonna cost $15m or more, so hopefully his cost is closer to what we gave Belt, but on a 2-3 year deal. I get Belly isn’t a perfect fit either. Jumping on KK early kinda took away the need for a LHB in the OF, but the potential of getting last year’s bat with solid defense in the OF and 1B is still pretty enticing.
  2. Agree he’s a huge risk. I’d be fine with offering an opt out after the first couple of years. The overall term of his contract would suck if his hitting declines again but if the AAV is around 20M, it’s at least not a crippling contract since he’s still a strong defensive player. The DH bats on the market are only appealing because they’re short term. If you’re asking me which guy to take a risk on, Belly for 8-10/200, or Soler for 3/45, I’m leaning towards Belly for the lefty bat and the fact that DH stays open on a team that could really use that flexibility for load management. Unless the Jays do some sort of franchise altering trade like acquiring Kim and Tatis, I don’t know that the right bat is even out there in the trade market for this team. Maybe Yelich if the Brewers decide to throw in the towel in the next couple of weeks?
  3. No worries! After I posted I kinda realized it’s more like one year and then the FO assess where we’re at. As long as Rogers doesn’t roll back payroll if they replace Atkins, I’m sure all would be fine too. I think this years s***** FA class got me a bit jaded. No clue what the next couple of crops look like
  4. Yeah I know. I just think this team also desperately needs a LHB in the middle of that order and aside from Joc it seems like everyone else is RH and can’t play the field. For a team that loves its flexibility to move guys around, you’d think they’d be okay spending 20-25mill a year on a guy that can play multiple positions well and actually hit. Springer and Vlad will need DH days and if Kirk starts hitting again, you might want to slide him in there once or twice a week.
  5. I still like Bellinger as a target for the reasons you listed. Elite defense still and gives Vlads break. The other DH options out there kinda kill all that flexibility.
  6. I’m not saying it’s 2-3 years and then that’s it, it’s over and time to rebuild. But you do have a core that on average will reach FA in about two years and a GM that might only get one more shot at this before he gets canned. If our next move is Soler and then that’s it, offseason done, then I think this is the season that dictates whether we extend our guys and the window or if it’s another early exit, then a GM likely comes in and starts moving assets. End of that window It’s not gospel. It’s just business. The other side of that business that makes me want to believe ownership wants to continue fielding a contender is that they’ve sunk massive amounts of money into a stadium reno and rumours are saying they want to generate more baseball content once their NHL broadcast contract is done. They need to continue to invest in the on-field product to keep people paying for tickets and Sportsnet packages.
  7. I think Rogers must feel okay with spending over the next 2-3 years. It’s our current window of contention and they need to put butts in seats after a massive stadium reno. Even if we keep Vlad and Bo long term, Gausman, Bassitt, and Springer are all off the books in 2-3 years. No reason to avoid one more big splash or two to become the divisional favourite for this window. If they’re worried about keeping both guys, Bo in particular, then maybe the Jays need to be exploring a blockbuster trade to move him now. Maybe a Bo+ for Kim+ framework is what needs to happen. Extend Kim for less money to man SS until Nimmala is ready.
  8. Oh. Did not know that was counted against the CBT. Thanks!
  9. Looking at those signings, Rogers must be okay with the team going up to but not over the second tier threshold (for the right signings). I think Spotrac has the Jays around 216 (est. 19m for Vlad). Even if he goes a bit higher that’s still close to 40m plus another 10m in salaries you could jettison. I think the Jays are waiting out the big guys like a few other teams to see if they can get a cheaper deal. May still have a shot something like Bellinger and then trade Manoah/Kikuchi for an IF like Kim, Adames or Polanco.
  10. Not sure I’d do a Manoah for Kim trade. I think BTV really undervalues 4 years of cheap Manoah. Look at the Marlins. Cabrera and Rogers are pretty meh pitchers but each are worth double or more on BTV than Manoah. I’d rather look at moving Kikuchi in this sort of trade. Kooch and Barger gets it close I would think.
  11. I’d love to get hader but I’d also love this team to spend 260-270 on payroll over the next few years to fill some glaring holes while backfilling with young guys over that time. Unfortunately I don’t think that’s happening, so would 5/100 for Hader really be money better spent than say 8/160 for Belly? This lineup as currently constructed isn’t long and pitchers are gonna be camping out on the outside part of the plate against all our righties unless we add some middle of the order lefty bats. I know Joc could be a good lefty option for cheap, too, but Belly would also give the Jays a lot of options by allowing them to rotate guys through DH while still having a legit defender/bat in the field
  12. Oh yea was definitely my pie in the sky trade dream. I’d also consider Tatis and taking on like 250 of Machado’s contract but doubt the Pads would do that while still trying to compete, nor lessen Tatis’ value by pairing him with Machado.
  13. The pads have been a team I’ve wondered about all off-season as a good partner for a big ML level trade. I know they’ve got Bogaerts, but Bo could slide over to 2nd if Kim were in the deal. Some framework of Bo and Tiedemann + for Tatis and Kim? Would kill our pitching depth but maybe a guy like Kikuchi would be willing to tack a couple more years onto his deal.
  14. I wonder if the Jays look to move Espinal and some prospects to the Marlins. Something like Espy+Martinez for Cabrera. Then flip Kooch to the Twins for Kepler. Gets us a slugging outfielder and pitcher with control. Then you could look at taking a big swing on a trade somewhere else (Bichette, Tiedemann, Schneider for Tatis+Cronenworth?). Getting an MLB ready guy to take Kooch’s spot at least opens up the possibility of moving tiedemann in a big deal. Those deals would also only really add Tatis’ salary to the payroll. The rest is pretty much neutral. Pipe dream I know, though haha
  15. Is Spanky this KingSarcasm guy that’s blown up Twitter with these signings the past two days?? Lol
