I was hoping that the team could get Dombrowski. I am not looking forward to another offseason of Deuquette BS. Don't think he is even that great.

Wow so Billy Beane to Toronto is inevitable

wouldn't that just make the Josh Donaldson trade make Beane look like even more of a genius if he ended up in Toronto....always one step ahead of everyone.

Likely to be the first of many moves in Boston. Even though Farrell is recovering from lymphoma and will likely be back for 2016, he'll likely be on a very short leash. Expect Dombrowski to make huge changes, especially with the minor league system.

I'm just going to prepare myself for Kenny Williams as Beeston's replacement, that way I'm not disappointed when it actually happens.

Jays should promote AA to president and retain the GM title. Hire back that guy that was assistant GM that left for Apple to come back as assistant GM.

What is wrong with Tinnish?

Wasn't there some sports writer that was like "no way Drombowski ends up in Boston, if that happens I will literally eat my own digestive tract!" It's almost as though sports writers have no accountability when they say things that are totally wrong.

I would never want Tinnish to be a GM, I had a conversation with him one time when he visited my workplace and he came off as such a douche bag. This was like 2 years into AA GM tenure.

DD is known to be old school. If we could get Billy Beane and give him a budget, we could be unstoppable.

Beane's style has never been about budget. I can't see him splurging in the FA market. Even if he did, he'd probably trade the player a year later.

I'd be scared of Beane after what he did in the off-season. I doubt he'd have interest in Toronto anyway, but this isn't 1998-2002 Beane here. He's a different guy now.

Didn't realize this until now but the Sox are on their way to their 3rd last place finish in 4 seasons. The only time they didn't get last was when they won the WS.

Pretty much everything went right for them in 2013, nearly all of their players were performing at or around career highs.

Yeah I remember Cherington made a bunch of questionable offseason moves that all went right that year and predictably fell apart the year after.

His offseason was pretty good. Low-risk short-term deals for (IIRC) Victorino, Dempster, Uehara, Drew, Gomes, and Ross put them over the top. He's been mostly terrible, but he made a lot of good moves to create that 2013 team.

I don't know how I remember this but at the time I remember you and I were mostly blasting him. But a lot of those deals did hit, even if for the first year (Victorino and Drew).

I particularly remember everyone finding the Victorino deal to be pretty bad. 6 WAR the year after he signed though. lol

remember he traded Iglesias mid season for Peavy which was pretty bad, he got so lucky.

Looks like we pushed the RedSox into giving him that contract, it was them or us and they pulled the trigger first.

That's just despairing at its best.

People don't seem to understand what a President does.

There is a lot of misunderstanding that I'm seeing, even in the media, who are the alleged experts.

Dombrowski isnt replacing Larry Lucchino as President/CEO of the Boston Red Sox, but instead is coming in at a newly created President of Baseball Operations position. He's the top baseball guy, reporting up to the new President/CEO Sam Kennedy, who was promoted from EVP/COO role to replace Lucchino, in which he was the top business operations guy. Up to now, Cherington and Kennedy had been the top Baseball and Business Ops guys, respectively, reporting up to Lucchino, so its easy to see why Cherington quit. He was in fact being demoted, by them bringing in another baseball operations guy above him, whereas before there was no one...he reported to Lucchino.

In this realm, its not really surprising that Dombrowski did not come to the Jays. With the Jays, Beeston is President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays with his direct reports, AA as the EVP/GM (Head of Baseball Operations) and Stephen Brooks is EVP, Head of Business Operations. Dombrowski's role in Boston isnt equal to Beeston, its actually equal to AA (albeit with a more impressive President Title). I never thought Dombrowski was qualified to replace Beeston, similar to how Kenny Williams is not, as they do not have the Business Operations background. If they brought in Dombrowski as President of Baseball Ops (creating that position), it would mean that (1) they still would have to replace Beeston, and (2) it would be a demotion for AA, similar to how it wouldve been for Cherington had he stayed.

Duquette is the only named candidate who has both Baseball and Business Ops experience, which is what the team would look for in a candidate to replace Beeston as President/CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays. Duquette has started a pretty successful sports academy, owned and run (from a business standpoint) a minor league baseball team, and was a founder of the Israeli baseball league.

Not sure many posters here have an interest really in the business side of things, but thought i'd help clear up some misconceptions here.
