GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 you really are nit picky and overanalyze things. Or you're just wrong.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I like the Edge's morning show these days but might be a bit nerdy for some. Dean Blundell knows nothing about sports which made him a pretty odd choice for the FAN. Agreed - Fred's been really solid, although at times I do miss the slapstick comedy stuff. Who doesn't like hearing people call in and tell about crazy/dirty/gross sex stories?
puphood Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Hutch is not predictable is his problem you just don't know what is showing up on the mound from start to start over this season. Of late I have been betting on poor starts from him. The rest of the regular season he could sink this team, in the post season you could hide him in the rotation with 7 game series and days off. Hope the get another SP......
CaptMurphy Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Less concerned about depth as I am about usage of what they have. There is zero reason at this time for Hutchinson to be in the rotation and Sanchez in the pen. Best possible use of available talent is to move Sanchez to the rotation and move Hutchinson to AAA or a long relief spot in the pen. Right now, I would opt for AAA as Hutchinson is just awful right now.

He already hurt his shoulder pitching in the rotation. Young kid, likely with an innings limit. The move to the bullpen may help protect him long term. 3. He wasn't very good as a starter.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Author Posted August 6, 2015 His injury wasn't the shoulder (which would have been disastrous), but his back (lats)
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Moving forward I'm pretty concerned about our last two spots in the rotation - Estrada and Hutchison. Estrada is not this good. So far he's had an abnormally good fly ball rate and fly ball/HR rate. However, I don't think he's going to s*** the bed so much that he will be kicked out of the rotation. Hutchison, however, worries me. His numbers show that he has been very unlucky, but when you actually watch his starts, he's serving up a ton of meatballs. The only thing I can give Hutchison credit for is that he doesn't seem unfazed by it. But what if we get an injury? We are due for one, honestly. The only options that come to mind are Randy Wolf, Scott Copeland and Jeff Francis. It would have been great if we could have kept Norris and shipped out Pompey instead, but whatever. Do you think it is possible that the Jays could entertain putting Sanchez back in the rotation? He may need 3 starts though. Remember, before Sanchez got injured he threw 8 innings of 1 run ball I'm fine with Estrada and Hutchison remaining in the rotation. I agree though, if someone gets hurt we have no depth. If we could at least make it to September before someone goes down we could use the 40 man roster to our advantage and have Wolfe go for 3 innings, Sanchez and Stroman follow him for 2.

Been a feature for so long, kinda sad it's gone now (unless I just miss it)

93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I'm fine with Estrada at this point. He rarely gets beat up and although he appears to be more hittable than he is, I like what he has shown thus far. I LOVE STRO tho, and can't wait to see him on that mound again. The kid is a gamer and even if it's only for 3 IP to build him up over a few starts, I'd rather that than watch Hutch implode in games where his team scores him 8 or more runs, yet we still have to sweat him since he can barely get through 5. I know he's still young and relatively inexperienced and that he's definitely a serviceable 4 or 5 down the road, but right now, I'm nervous to watch him pitch in any game he starts. Is Hendriks not available to be stretched out? I love his value in the pen, but is his value as a starter more or less? Does he lose some of that velocity as a starter? I'd sure prefer him over Hutch or Sanchez at this point for sure

I'd sure prefer him over Hutch or Sanchez at this point for sure Hendriks (like Sanchez and, well, most pitchers in general) does lose velocity when starting. It would appear his "home" is in the bullpen. He's been given 34 career starts in the majors and the results have been at or below replacement level. He's been dynamite out of the bullpen. Kudos for AA for grabbing him and then finding a way to keep him in the pen to start the year (which gave him the opportunity to prove he could succeed there).
93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Yeah, he's been lights out in the pen and I guess screwing with something like that would be pretty dumb. Losing Cecil out there and leaving Loup as our only lefty option is pretty scary at this point. It just seems like any option is better than throwing Hutch or Sanchez out there in important games such as the ones we're playing now. Hopefully they'll just keep scoring like they have been when Hutch starts.

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Yes, the #1 concern with the team ROS is probably the SP depth. There's just nothing there after the top 5, aside from a couple of geezers in Buffalo and the slim hope that Stroman can come back and start at some point. The next 5 on the depth chart are all names that belong outside the top 8 on any normal good team's depth chart. Wolf, Francis, Jenkins, Copeland, Bibens-Dirkx, Taylor Cole...

Laika Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 If someone goes down Toronto should probably trade for some s***** vet who will clear waivers, like Lohse or Hudson, before calling up any of their in house scrubs.

Hendriks would be better than some of those guys but it's hard to stretch out a guy that doesn't have options.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Has anyone claimed Vance Worley yet? Would make a lot of sense for the Jays. No kidding, him or Rodriguez.
