baloojayz Verified Member Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 I really hate this phrase. Wouldn't that apply to ANY pitcher? Also, I think the effect here of moving to the AL East is dramatically overrated. Are you kidding me? Moving from the NL to the AL East has got to be the worst thing you can do for yourself as a pitcher. 1) Beastly DH's instead of the pitcher spot. 2) A lot of NL parks are pitcher friendly parks, all of the AL East are launchpads. 3) Bluejays, Yanks, and Orioles are pretty much top 5 in every offensive category. 4) With the exception of the Rays, all the AL teams are offence first and play for the big inning. I think the negative effect of moving to the AL East is underrated if anything.

At least they're being realistic. With our offence, we'd only need a mid level starter that can eat up innings for the rest of the season, and leave the ace hunting for the off-season. pat_borders Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Do you have premium pitcher in mind? Its hard to say who's available. And Obviously some of these guys will cost more than just Norris; but obviously the names below. 1) Cueto 2) Kazmir + Clipparp 3 Chapman ----------------------------------- I wouldn't give up Norris for the guys under this line 4) Samarjajjajajajajaj 5) Fck I'd even bring Happ back, I liked him last year (dominant and brutal!)

Maybe that's the deal

Good pitching shuts down great offense, why not try and win now while we have the best offense in the majors by a mile. If we make the playoffs we can't really go in with a bunch of guys who are capable of putting up league average numbers and expect to win, we need at least something in terms of shut it down pitching. We have alot of young sp depth, use it to bring in a Cueto and or Chapman or at the very least a Clippord/Kazmir combo.
pat_borders Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Kazmir minus Clippard is the best option I'd be happy with that, but you might as well package in Clippard, the extra cost shouldn't be reasonable.

pat_borders Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 he's no good But neither is pretty much everyone in our bullpen
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 You guys are all talking about pitchers who AA might shy away from. Samardzija + Nate Jones would be an excellent grab, and it won't take Devon Travis like someone suggested. I think Jones could be a legitimate late inning pitcher if he recovers from TJS and Samardzija is a good pitcher who got off to a tough start. Perfect fit IMO.

Boyd is the most I'd give up for any of those guys. Norris might be just as good as Chapman out of the pen, he's just to valuable for a rental

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Oakland isn't done yet They have played way better than their records indicate and are now marching towards .500. Don't think Beane will be giving up anytime soon

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 If the mets were up for it how many people here would give Travis in a trade for Syndergaard
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 If the mets were up for it how many people here would give Travis in a trade for Syndergaard No. Position player > pitcher. Why are you so insistent on trading Travis? We have an above-average 2B for the first time in years and now you want to get rid of him?
Jaysfanuk Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 With buehrle and dickey' contracts up at the end of the year (gives us $31m to work with) should we not get a 4/5 starter by the deadline so we don't give up too much and go big in the offseason? I know it doesn't help now but this offense will still be around next year too

There are some good FA pitchers this offseason and we'll have Buehrle/Romero/Dickey off the books. Could go hard for an ace or #2 type starter in the offseason. But AA seems to avoid free agents so...

But at the same time, has he ever had as much salary freed up as he's going to this winter? plus do you then go two #2 types like a Kazmir/Simon/Kennedy or go all out ace like Cueto/Price/Greinke

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Unlikely that a top FA come to Toronton
Jaysfanuk Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Unlikely that a top FA come to Toronton Why though? The offense is good enough that they'd only have to pitch fairly averagely (like below 4.00 ERA) to get a 15 win season (a massively unimportant stat but people still pay attention to it)

Also - take a good look at the results of the "big" FA signings over the past 5-6 years. It's not pretty.

Travis projects to be average 2nd baseman at best. Remember we got him for Gose man.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 If the mets were up for it how many people here would give Travis in a trade for Syndergaard 100%. Mets would never do that though, even if they are desperate for a bat.
