Jim’s story: http://www.csnphilly.com/baseball-philadelphia-phillies/cole-hamels-open-minded-all-potential-trade-destinations?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter … He smartened up and realized he could be stuck in Philadelphia for three more years
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 ^ do we really want him if he already declined a trade here?? Absolutely, although what would the Jays even give up? I assume they'd want the Phillies to cover some of the salary.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 ^ do we really want him if he already declined a trade here?? I like Hamels more than a rental - he could also cost less talent because of his contract
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I would rather take on the whole contract and give up a lesser package than the other way around.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I don't think that gets it done I wouldnt trade Norris. Everyone else should be open.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Well this changes things. Funny how winning changes everything! Jays had a better record the last time Hamels declined a trade to Toronto.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Sanchez Boyd Hoffman Pompey for Hamels and Papelbon Pls get it done AA Norris, Boyd, Penecost, Castro
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Castro, Pentecost, Labourt, Alford and we'll pay the contracts. Papelbon and Hamels have zero value to the Phillies, both are signed to stupid contracts
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 I would rather take on the whole contract and give up a lesser package than the other way around. So would every fan...the important thing is if Rogers feels the same.
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Man would I love to just fleece them for him due to the Phillies' laughable situation and stick it in Amaro's moronic face, although I doubt that's going to happen.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 So would every fan...the important thing is if Rogers feels the same. Yeah and that's doubtful which is why I fear another overpay. We'll see what happens

JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 this team will be legit if they can get Hamels and Papelbon. go for it!

Yeah if Amaro was going to accept a laughable package he would have been gone by now. I think he's asking for the sky and then some.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Yeah if Amaro was going to accept a laughable package he would have been gone by now. I think he's asking for the sky and then some. He definitely is
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 He's probably asking teams to take on the whole contract and give up top prospects
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 He's probably asking teams to take on the whole contract and give up top prospects what is a fair price if the jays take on the whole albatross?

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 This team is finally getting to the point where it has some youth at the MLB level and at AA/AAA and it happens to coincide with them needing a top of the rotation starter which means they'd have to give up some of the youth at the MLB level and/or some of the upper minors prospects. It goes back to misfiring in the Marlins and Dickey trades since despite all the young talent they gave up, they didn't get a top starting pitcher. I say go for the under-the-radar guys.
baubau Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Castro, Pentecost, Sanchez and DJ Davis. I feel like Amaro is dumb enough to accept this. I also imagine he would want Sanchez ahead of Norris or Boyd because of that ERA.

Well Josh Johnson was supposed to be that guy, but he blew up in their faces.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Well Josh Johnson was supposed to be that guy, but he blew up in their faces. He was. Although, he had 1 year of control left and would've been expensive to re-sign had he pitched as expected. You also have to remember that they expected Dickey to pitch as that guy as well, they certainly gave up a package worthy of a top of the rotation SP to get him.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 Does anyone know the financial situation in Philly right now? Are they going to try and shed payroll for the rebuild? Or would they be trying to eat some of Hamels contract? It's doubtful that the Jays would take on the whole contract.

Before they wanted the team to take 100% of it plus a top package. I don't think the contract is that bad though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 What would be the 2015 equivalent of 2010 Kyle Drabek, Travis d'Arnaud, and Michael Taylor? That's all I'd give Amaro.
