glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 If Gibbons isn't leading his teams to .500 records, he is fighting with his own players. It's kind of his thing.

Did anyone else see it and have you heard anything about what it was about? It was mentioned on the GDT. Have no idea what the argument was really about. Someone joked that Bautista wanted Sanchez in to save the game... I doubt any poster would have that info (or atleast that quickly). But Imagine if that was what the argument was about... wow... given how things turned out.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Fire Gibbons Bautista for player manager I'm only 90% joking Serious, Gibbons is garbage. Lack of foresight can be seen on the Goins pinch run
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Both need to go 1. Gibbons makes too many dumb in game decisions 2. Bautista is an egotistical bastard

Did anyone else see it and have you heard anything about what it was about? Was it late in the game? Bautista seemed pretty pissed at that low strike call that made the count 0-2 and then he struck out on the next pitch, on a check swing. They may have been arguing about that.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 For the right package of prospects or players that fill our long term needs, in a friggin Heartbeat! Yes! Yes! Yes !
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Bautista is a once in a generation player, you sure you want to let him go. He's not a once in a generation player. EE and Bautista have very similar hitting stats. Two on the same team in the same generation. Homerism. He's a good, not great player, who had one very good season (did not get MVP). Not even close to HOF.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Bautista is a once in a generation player, you sure you want to let him go. I wouldn't classify bautista as a once in a generation type of player. He's good but not that good.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 He didn't sign an autograph for you huh? Bastard really? Butt hurt I would never ask. Instead, I would tell him to stop being a whiny bitch.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Honestly, didn't look like they were shouting at each other. Looks like they were discussing something - didn't look heated.

Did anyone else see it and have you heard anything about what it was about? I would guess it was about the low strike. As Bautista was leaving the batting box he was mouthing something probably at the umpire. The camera showed him enter the dugout and he continued to complain. It could be that Gibbons was just peeved about the constant complaining about balls and strikes. Although Bautista has a great eye at the plate, I don't know of any other player who complains as much about ball and strike calls as Bautista. I personally find to to be annoying when watching on TV or at a game.

comeon sense Verified Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I,m guessing but maybe it was Gibbons reminding Bautista what happened before, and not to get tossed again, and it might have pissed JB off. Or maybe JB wanted to sit where Gibbons was sitting ,but Gibby wouldn,t let him,and told him to f*** off. Bautista had every right to complain in that at bat.The ump was calling that pitch in question a strike against us on offense, and for Boston when we were pitching, all night long.

Is he a good player, or not? You don't like the guy, fine, but let's not downplay him as a player.

Just part of my rebuttal
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 Honestly, didn't look like they were shouting at each other. Looks like they were discussing something - didn't look heated. Guess Gibby decided to live or die by Casey Jansen. I also thought Pompey pinch running instead of stroman might've been smarter, especially in the game where melky suffered season ending injury diving for a base.

Ok, Bautista isn't a once in a generation player, but he's a great player. In 2010 he hit 54 and was 3rd in the AL in OPS. The following season he was better and lead the AL in OPS. This year he is third in OPS in the AL. He's had more than great seasons. He is currently having a very good season. Maddon called Bautista a great player. EE and Bats are both great players.

Longevity and consistency is what gets you there and Bautista only really got to an elite level when he was 29yo. AA thinks Jose can be productive in to his 40's because of athleticism and dedication to taking care of his body. At some point he'll move to the infield and man 1B. If Bautista can produce in to his late 30's he may even still have a shot at the hall, it will take overall great health and a few monster seasons.end his career with +400HR.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 I reserve 'great' to guys like Pujols, Cabrera Nice definition. You don't like the guy. When I say great, I'm talking current as of today, not his career. This year and in the present Bautista is great. He is in the top 5% of players in the MLB. You think Pujols has had a better year than bats? Give me a break.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Gibby is a good manager Lol uwotm8 What makes Gibbons such a bad manager? The Nats are maybe the best team in baseball, I wouldn't trade Gibbons for Matt Williams.
metafour Verified Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 What makes Gibbons such a bad manager? He's not. Only tards overestimate the impact of managers. The dork in Tampa suddenly looks a lot more average than he's billed to be...I wonder why that is.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Buatista in the HOF is a near-impossibility. The best case scenario for him is he produces another 5 years and he might have a career close to Jason Giambi, who, juice or no juice, is a fringe candidate himself.
