BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Who gives a f*** about these articles and Power Rankings etc in May?! I care about rankings in Sept most. Its fun to be in first playing good and meaningful ball. One game at a time. A chimp could see we have rotation depth issues and we wont keep winning like this forever. Some hitters will regress blah blah... Nothing to see here folks...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The only thing I care about is continuing to win as many games as possible and finding a 4th reliable starter to go with MB, RAD and Hutch. otherwise I'm very calm and happy.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I didn't read the whole article after reading some of the comments. He cites Thole's hot hitting as one reason they won't continue to play well, after that I stopped reading.

He cites Thole's hot hitting as one reason they won't continue to play well, after that I stopped reading. Silly article. Here is the deal. If healthy it's a 200+ homer, 800 run offense led by 500 innings from the shitballers. The entire thing depends on health and the shitballer convergence point. There is no question in my mind that the shitballers will converge to the point where you can't tell the difference between them. If the convergence point is 17-9 3.30 or something like that... then you gotta like our chances. If the convergence point is 13-11 4.20.. then no. That's an 8 win difference. Difference between 84-78 and 92-70. Shitballer convergence point. They are slowly converging. At one point I think Buerhle's era was 0.5 and Dickey's 6.00. And now it is 2.30 and 3.90 or something. Right now we don't know the exact final convergence point yet.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The article is pretty negative, talking about how everyone who is performing well will regress and those who suck right now will continue to suck and can't progress. That being said, this winning streak we have been very, very lucky and the back end of this rotation is still s*****.
BarkatToronto Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Pretty stupid article where I actually attempted to get through it but the title is right if they don't add another legit starter. But everyone already knew that. Yep Some ones opinion is not reality
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Why, exactly, is Lind a sure bet to regress? Not like he's particularly far from a silver slugger season or anything...
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 but Melky only hit THREE homers last year guys. His power surge is completely explainable!!

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 "Toronto remains a poor fielding team." Riiiiiiiiiiiight... Edit: What do you want to bet this guy gets a vote for Gold Glove too?

The lineup is just absolutely stacked and most are perfoemrmimg to.expectations. Starting rotation? Yeah they've been lucky with BaBip and good defense. We need one more quality starter to help sustain this.

Well I would definitely lump Francisco there in terms of luck, but he alone doesn't play an important role

Now that being said i had a big discussion last night with a buddy of mine.... Does possibly dealing Lindo make sense to acquire a starter that we most desperately need? Or should we keep that Lineup together?

Obviously, someone like Encarnacion won't always be this good but he is a legit grest hitter. To doubt that at this point would be pretty idiotic.

There has been no luck with this team, they have if anything been unlucky, could easily have 3-4 more wins, last nights game this whole streak was the first one that felt lucky. Pitching , yes, we all know we need another starter.

If you could get Lee or Shark in a package including ONE pitching prospect one non-pitching prospect besides Gose and one of either Lind or Francisco I'd do that in a second. Teams would likely prefer Lind due to MLB track record.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Did someone say Lee? http://anongallery.org/img/5313/south-park-randy-masturbation.jpg
Key22 Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 We added Kevin Seitzer. RH Power hitters are hitting the ball to right field a LOT when there is a runner in scoring position. Do that enough and teams can;t use their shifts - once they take down the shift you can rip the ball to your pull side and collect more hits. And most of the guys in the line-up are able to hit homers to the opposite field. It's a lot easier to pitch when you know your team is capable of scoring 5-10 runs most every night. And the team Defense seems a LOT better than it was last year. But yeah there are some holes - but most teams have some holes. I'd still like to see a more solid starter but I think we need to wait until around June 30 to see if we have a legit shot. The real Red Sox may show up and the Yankees aren't going away.
shortstop Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 also does wonders for a pitcher when he's pitching with a lead!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 That writer brings up some good points but he only mentions the rest of the AL East in passing. That right now might be the biggest reason we contend. For all of our warts, all of the other teams have just as many and we have a leg up on all of them a 1/3 of the way through the season.

No. Because the teams that would want Lind aren't going to part with a quality pitcher from their rotation since they are contending. Teams that will be willing to part quality pitchers are going to want young, cheap, controllable prospects NOT a platoon first basemen in his late 20's early 30's.

He's got good speed...his bat is coming around and he has a lot of athleticism. His trade value is growing and he could very well be included in a package and if we don't trade him he's providing good depth and could play into our future in the coming years.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 as far as the article goes to say Francisco has only ever hit 18 homers in a year and not mention that he's young and hit those 18 homers in a career high 385 plate appearances is just bad journalism. Melky hit 3 homers last year, but no mention that he played with a tumour on his spine. Lawrie is a young player still developing that has yet to play a full season either. His power has always been there and he's got 20+ home run power. Lindy is playing a bit over his head, but not dramatically over his head and he's missed 3 weeks...where's the mention of that...lind missed a chunk of time and we're still doing well. Even with some regression this offense is still clearly a top 4 offense in the AL....
