Simply cannot expect to be a playoff team while rostering and playing guys like Spaghetti, Lorenzen, Mantiply, Straw, Scherzer, and Guerrero

Seeing Vladdy's name at the end of the list,

This team has scored the second-fewest runs in baseball and has two viable SPs and is two games out of the playoffs. What an absurd season. So many teams in the AL should be embarrassed about what they've done.

It's actually kind of astounding how close the Jays are to a .500 team with the clusterf*ck of injuries and underperformances from key players all year.

Schneider should get manager of the year for this mess to make up for him getting shafted on it last season.

My guess is we need to go 7-2 over our last 3 series to get in. Cleveland is gonna win that division now, and unfortunately both Rangers and ChiSox have the tiebreaker on us, so we need to finish ahead of both of them. Take 2 of 3 from both Tex and Baltimore on the road will be a tall task and then sweep the Reds at home. It's gonna come down to the last series I think. We had to win 4 in a row at the end of last season to win the Division so it's doable but it won't be easy. Just hoping we still have a chance going into that final series back at home.

This team is just decimated right now.

Yesavage ain't ready but we have to force it.

Bieber's broken again.

Poor Miles and Varland being abused until their arms fall off.

Santander is hanging out on Robidas Island and seems to like it there.

There's not enough duct tape and crazy glue to hold it together.

Damn, the White Sox have the Tigers, Royals, and Rockies to end the season. I didn't realize how easy their remaining schedule was. They are more likely to collapse than the Guardians are, but that schedule makes it very hard to see them falling off a cliff in the next 10. Even if the White Sox went 5-5 then the Jays would have to go 7-2 to overtake them, and I'd be shocked if the Jays did anything better than 6-3 down the stretch given their rotation issues.

The Jays are 1-9 (!) against the White Sox and Rangers this season. Came back to bite them in the end.

It’s 50/50 at this point

if we don’t make the playoffs, the good thing is we have a chance next year.   If not next year maybe when Vlad is off the books maybe we can draft well the next 14 years.

do what the orioles did get a bunch of good draft picks and rebuild.  Come back better and stronger.  Make the playoffs

Need the Red Sox to wear out the Rangers' bullpen tonight and tomorrow night before the series starts on Friday. We get an off day tomorrow so hopefully that helps.

Yea, wear them out, or injuries.   Whatever makes it easier on us.

Tigers are sneaky good. Their bullpen sucks but 1-6 in their lineup is very good and they have real starters taking a turn through the rotation each time (no small feat by this point of the year). We need them to hang some losses on the White Sox.

Royals and Rockies suck but they will be trying their hardest. Royals are a division rival and the Rockies will be trying like heck to avoid 100 losses for the 4th straight season.

This is small in the grand scheme of things but I think if there is a 3-way tie we would be in.

Say we all end up with 83 wins:

  • White Sox hold the tiebreaker over the Guardians for the AL Central
  • That kicks the Guardians down to the WC race, where we come out on top with the tiebreaker

So the White Sox don't hold the tiebreaker over us but there is one scenario where we still make the playoffs if tied with them.

We need to wait to see if we lose tomorrow

lose tomorrow, close it down.  Close the board down, like olerud said

Close my life down

Won yesterday but this should still be closed down.

I assume Nolan Perry doesn't have to be added to the 40 man in 2027....  I mean otherwise why is Lorenzen pitching in a must win game instead of Perry?

In fact why is burnt out Cease pitching Friday instead of Perry?  Cease at 92 or whatever he shows up with Friday night won't work.   Hopefully Soriano gives up his 3 or 4 runs early Saturday as not to tease us.  And then Yesivage with half attached knee?  Didn't seem to work Buffalo and it isn't working in Texas.

This needs to be shut down and a new thread opened that discusses the following ....

1.  Who will we pick with the 25th pick?  Not only did we miss the playoffs but no where near the 18th pick, so now we'll be 15th which goes to 25th, which I hope we get the next Chad Jenkins, who actually probably is better then Lorenzen and Spaghetti, so try to get a 23 year old 5th year college Chad Jenkins style guy who can be up June 2028 when baseball re-opens.

2.  What player will we roster on the 40 man instead of Perry?  Since we didn't call up Perry to give us 4 innings a week and NOT give up 6 runs (which is all he'd have to do to improve on Lorenzen and Perry) we presumably have an extra 40 man spot open (I assume Perry doesn't have to be added).  What great player will we get with this spot?  Maybe Chad Jenkins?  Or is he retired?

Chad Jenkins 1st round 20th pick 2009 draft.

f***!!!  We aren't even getting a Chad Jenkins.   Or maybe we are?  What is the lowest we can finish ?

Chad Jenkins 2012-2014 style would have saved our season if he did the Lorenzen/Sphaghetti innings.  But you only get a pick like this at 20th, and we are likely to get 25th.

Or maybe there is still hope.  I will be monitoring Cease closely.  I think if Cease shows up at 92 or 93, and Soriano gives up his 4 runs early to demoralize the hitters, we can still maybe get like 11th last, which is 21st pick, which still would miss out on the next Chad Jenkins.

Here's what is going to happen

Jays finish 13th ten pick penalty brings them to 23rd

Go wild and risky choosing Bjorn Javier Larsen, the first half spanish half norwegian player drafted in the first round.

Bjorn Javier, a little rough around the edges hits .230 with power as a teenager.

Olerud363 complains that a player that hit .230 could never make it.

Bjorn traded to Marlins for Eury Perez

Blue Jays message board a little hesitant after what happened with Nimmala and Soriano and Berrios kind of.... but need to fill the rotation somehow.

Eury Perez pitches to a 4.2 ERA looking awesome at times but giving up 4 runs in the worst spots, Bjorn puts up 38 career WAR to set the record as the greatest half spanish, half norwegian player ever!!!!!

Depends on payroll.  Next 14 years we have 35 million of dead weight on the payroll, so brings us to new tax levels and we lose picks.

So one strategy is 24 rookies, + Vlad, + maybe some waiver claims like Lorenzen, then we could avoid the 10 pick penalty and we'll win about 40 games.  But that doesn't get us a top pick, with our luck the lottery ball would get us number 8,

Also even if come bottom 5 a couple years in a row then under current CBA we don't get good drafts pick the third year.

The future is this.  65 wins a year, 18th pick or so most years.  Hard to see ever coming out of it.

Mike Trout went 25th overall Olerud - we'll just draft the next Trout at 25.  Problem solved.

2009 MLB Draft

20th Chad Jenkins

24th Randal Grichuk

25th Mike Trout

Another reason it will be important for these teenagers we draft to hit .350 right away is so we don't trade them for Jose "4 run inning" Soriano.  Not that Jose is horrible, and he doesn't give up 4 runs an inning every inning, just one a game.  The one still hurts though, especially when teases us.

Mike Trout was picked 25th.  No one new he was that good, not that scouts, not the do-it-your-self stats wizzes, the only person who knew was Cedar Rapids.  Cedar actually is a place not a person, but when they dropped that f***er Mike Trout off in Cedar Rapids at age 17 and 18 the f***er hit .360 and everyone knew after 2 weeks.  Kind of the opposite of Billy Beane.

No playoffs this year.  No baseball next.  And the mods refuse to close the thread.  So I'll take the opportunity to post my thoughts on how we get out of this, after baseball restarts June 2028.

1.  Rule one:  All minor leaguers who are good need to hit .350 right away so we don't accidentlaly trade them for Jose "4 run inning" Soriano who doesn't give up 4 runs every inning, just one.
