Donno how a group of guys in supposedly good shape made such an easy game look so hard.  I was just out hitting line drives with marbles and a 1/2” piece of rebar. Exit velocity off the charts, finding gaps nearly every time.  Not holding back, if you feel what I mean.  No fear.  Not trying to be the hero, just in the moment

So when I see a 99 mph fastball it looks like a beach ball in slow motion.  They should try that 

also, like seriously.  
 

The playoffs are there to make, so make them.

Cleveland going to be the biggest problem I think. They were, however, playing the Rockies lol. Hopefully jays keep the hot streak going against lesser teams now!

It’s not right that a poor team is finding success.  Baseball isn’t supposed to work that way.

Mission accomplished. 

Got through a hellish part of the schedule that probably should've killed them off and yet they stayed well within reach. 

Yes it helps that the other teams around them are trash, but the Jays did their part. 

Of course KC is on an 8 game winning streak suddenly because baseball is f***ing stupid, but there are no excuses now.

Royals: 

Position player side is close to a push with Toronto. Witt and some other good hitters but they will start four or five zeroes just like us. 

Rotation is boring but serviceable. Lugo, Dobnak, Noah Cameron against Toronto.

Their bullpen is atrocious. Worst in baseball. 

Key is to get their decent SP out early and then execute against the parade of sub replacement level relief

The Mariners had two games last week where they gave up 22 runs and 19 runs 😂

Hopefully the Jays’ bats can take advantage and do some damage this weekend!

Jays have about 1 in 4 or 5 chance of getting in playoffs. Usually one of those teams bunched up gets hot. Has a good September. Could be Jays but doubtful. 

A few years ago in hockey I said Habs have 25% chance at conference finals. A couple fellows looked right at me. It was the year they went to Cup finals. I said Leafs don't seem to have the will to win. Matthews and those guys. Usually in playoffs that puts you over. Playoffs seem rougher and tougher. Takes that great passion for the game. While regular season is more skill oriented. They got to conference finals then upset Vegas.

Yeah, eventually you figure one of these teams (including the Jays) is going to get hot and separate themselves in the race for the 3WC, but we’ll see.

Playing around .500 isn’t going to accomplish much. The Jays are now 2.0 GB, so they’re actually further back than they were even after what we considered a successful homestand and road trip. At this point, they probably need to go something like 7–3 or 8–2 over a 10-game stretch to really make that jump. Just look at what Cleveland has done recently.

Detroit, meanwhile, looks like the wheels are coming off quickly and they’re now 4.5 GB. Crazy considering two weeks ago we were talking about how they were getting hot and looking dangerous. At this point in the season, one bad losing streak can bury you pretty fast.

Trading Skubal was one thing but the Riley Greene injury has pretty much killed them

Remember that the run needed to make the playoffs was going to happen about once in every 20 attempts.  Very high probability we fall short.  Just be happy we're playing some meaningful games at this point.  I don't think anyone expected that 3 weeks ago.

As a minimum, the run has temporarily delayed all the ignorant b*tching and moaning and the need to name scapegoats, which is by far the worst part of this forum.

Yea fair point, if we lose this series we can do a scape goat thread.  But until then, it's very likely we make the playoffs, I completely agree with all of that.

What does this mean? We were 5 games back and needed to jump 6 teams. Now we are 2 games back and need to jump 3 teams.

If I had to put money on it, I'd probably say the Jays are not making it, but let's see if they have a hot streak in them. Going 12-8 against the quality of teams they were facing the last 3 weeks was a great outcome, but they kinda need to have an 8-10 game winning streak now, or something like that, rather than winning 2/3 a lot. After 4+ months of playing like s***, there's still a lot of digging left to climb out of the hole they built for themselves, and they are running out of time. If one team ahead or directly behind them gets hot, then it's going to be a long shot (I'm looking at Cleveland based on schedule).

Nothing sends this board into a darker place quite like losing half a game in the standings while not actually playing.

Winning 7? Series in a row before that Yankees series was great, but at some point, the Jays need to sweep the series. 

If the Jays keep winning series without sweeping it, they are gaining 1 game closer to .500 instead of 3.

I haven't really been scoreboard watching the White Sox much like I have the rest of the AL scrum but I think it's probably time to start. 

They are only 4.5 games up on the Jays, don't project that well, and haven't had a very good August.

The AL Central is turning into the AL West where 3 teams are vying for either the division or WC3. Them faltering could open up another path for the Jays if Cleveland or Minny gets hot.

Sorry my mistake. I think before the homestand where they had the 4-game series vs. Boston, they were 3.5 GB for the start of that homestand. 

Aug. 18th: start of Tampa/New York road trip: 0.5 GB. 

Now after going 3-3 which we all agreed we would take in a heartbeat on that road trip, they're 2.0 GB. 

So overall, they went a combined 8-5 against Boston, Yankees twice and Tampa, which we'll all take against those tough teams. So that 8-5 stretch, roughly moved them from 3.5 to 2 GB now. 

As for the road trip, staying .500 at 3-3, made them lose some ground before the start of it, but didn't bury them which is the most important. So shouldn't have mentioned the homestand when I was making that point before. 

So they gained 1.5 games pretty much during this 13-game stretch. Lost some ground after the road trip.
