I think the compromise there is just to demand players that could help win in the next three years, and if the other team says no, so be it. 

Just establish that your selling them a playoff run this year for a playoff run in a future year, otherwise no deal.  f*** this trading for a teams #14 prospect.  No.  You can take your top prospect off the table, everyone else is on the table, or else we just ride. 

The complication I suppose if the Jays want to get below a competitive tax threshold.  I heard they could lose 10 spots in the draft or something?  Unless top 6?  Is that true. 

We all know the Jays are destined to finish 3rd last, but lose the lottery so pick 7th, then get dropped 10 spots to 17.  ... sigh...

Was hoping the jays would continue to go vertical out the gate.  Instead, the season is over,  unless we win the next 3, which is very likely.  Even after we trade away our stars, we likely have a run similar to other times it has happened where sellers went on a run.

We saw Cleveland last trade deadline do a "light sell" and retool, and they ended up winning their division. Detroit I believe the previous year traded Jack Flaherty at the deadline and went on a run during the last two months to win their division.

Jays won't win their division, but the 3rd WC is still within some reach especially in a weak AL. Just keep winning and playing good baseball, and we'll see what happens.

When you look at it, they upgraded their rotation by replacing Gausman with Soriano. They strengthened their depth with Josh Smith, who could pretty much play every position other than catcher. Losing Varsho in CF means either Straw/Sanchez will be playing out there on a regular basis which is meh, but Varsho wasn't really lighting it up with the bat anyways and his defense has slipped a bit. I can't believe I'm saying this, but probably trading Hoffman hurts the most if this team went on a run, since he really has turned things around since his implosions in May and has been one of the most dominant relievers in baseball. 

They kept Springer, who looks like he's starting to heat up with the bat a bit, which is encouraging if they did go on a run. Scherzer maybe looks like he could give us 8-10 decent starts down the stretch as the #5 starter. Gotta hope Bieber could figure things out. As well, need Vladdy and Kirk to both heat up over the last two months and who knows maybe with less pressure, they might.

Yes, Kirk looks he is finally bringing things back to where his expectations are with the bat, Springer's swimg metrics are back to where they were last season and the results have follwoed. Okomoto is solid enough if not spectacular. 

It really is about Vlad getting hot to give this team the shot in the arm offensively

If Vlad gets hot then the Jays have a chance. The hole might be too big to dig out of regardless but without elite Vlad it’s going to be very difficult. The 2023 Jays were able to carry his ass to nearly 90 wins but 2023 Vlad was like Soto compared to what he is this season.

Yeah realistically this team goes as far as Vlad takes them. Springer might be our best hitter again, Kirk is slowly getting the bat caught up, Okamoto continues doing his thing, but the rest of the lineup is a bunch of slap hitters. Just yesterday Vlad f***ed up two easy opportunities to score runs, he's continually squandered opportunities. He needs to get his head out of his ass for the team to be able to go on a serious run. Way too many 3-1, 2-1, etc. victories.

The thing is when I look at the standings. 2 teams got substantially worse in Detroit and Baltimore. None of those teams ahead of us are particularly good to begin with. A game over .500 is currently holding down the third wild card spot.

But unless Vlad starts playing even close to what he’s capable of it’s all kinda moot. Springer and Kirk have got it going but we need that third hot bat. We need Vlad or someone else to emerge.

Yes the teams suck

But, Toronto has to play good teams and Cleveland, Minnesota, Seattle, Texas, and Houston mostly play the horrible teams from their s***** divisions. 

The Mariners have a tough August but in September they play the A's 7 times, Angels 7 times, Rockies 3 times. Seventeen games which are absolutely cake.
