Someone give me a realistic path of how Canada could beat the USA in this game

Theoretically

Nick Pivetta for 5 innings

Jonah Tong

Erik Sabrowksi

Matt Brash

Cade Smith

Owen Caissie - LF

Freddie Freeman - 1B

Vladimir Guerrero Jr - 3B

Josh Naylor - DH

Tyler O’Neil - RF

Otto Lopez - SS

Abraham Toro - 2B

Bo Naylor - C

Denzel Clarke - CF

tldr - there is no hope and Americans will endlessly mock Canada once again

I mean Italy just did it and Canada and Italy are comparable

I know USA thought they had already advanced so it's not the same but any credible MLB pitcher can shut down a lineup, even a lineup of stars, and Soroka is very comparable to Lorenzen who just blanked USA for almost 5 innings.

Italy has better relievers though. Canada would need Soroka to deal and then some group of relievers to not get lit up. Maybe someone like Wilkinson or Skirrow, someone the USA players have never seen before, could just baffle them a bit and get lucky.

Canada's offense can hang. What if Webb or someone else has a bad outing and gives up some runs? O'Neill and Naylor need to hit homers.

It's baseball. Prediction markets are giving Canada a 16% chance to win right now. That's not zero!

This game is setting up perfectly for Aumont or Paxton to be trusted with a leverage inning and serve up a game losing 2 or 3 run homer.

Paxton says "FYSMC" in what might end up being the last "real" competitive baseball game he ever pitches in.  You gotta love it.  How can you not be romantic about baseball!

I think Paxton is allowed to pitch tomorrow.

80 pitches seems to be the limit in the QF.

Soroka 5 shutout innings using 81 pitches, then Paxton 4 shutout innings throwing 97 the entire time? Canada wins 2-0.

Olympics qualification.... two teams from the Americas qualify through this WBC but USA as the 2028 automatically qualifies so I assume that means the top two non USA teams.

Venezuela, PR, and Canada all went 3-1. DR went 4-0.

What happens if Ven, PR, and Canada all lose in the QF? DR qualifies for the Olympics, but then is spot #2 decided by a tie-breaker formula?

There is a lot at stake here!

Looks like the tiebreaker would be "runs allowed per recorded defensive out" so I guess we need to hope PR and Ven get blown out and then Canada, even if they lose, somehow hold USA to a reasonable run total LMAO

I think the team should be willing to burn Soroka and Taiilon here, then figure out the semi-final if they somehow win the game.

Soroka 3-4

Taillon 3-4

Paxton cleans up the rest.

That's at least all MLB quality arms. Those guys are capable of shutting down any lineup, even if its very unlikely.

100%

They'll have to beat DR to make the finals anyway, and two 10% upsets in a row is just too much to ask for. Go all in for this win, treat it like your gold medal game.

Obviously it is a joke. But the sad part is that set up could actually win the tournament. Vlad did say he would consider playing for Canada in the future!

That tie breaker really needs to change going forward as it actually penalizes a team for mercy ruling a week team.

So I think right now we are looking at

PR - 7 runs

Canada - 10

Ven - 12

Ya it’s a good squad. Probably a top 4 team behind Japan, DR and the Americans. Unfortunate part is this is the best Nick Pivetta Canada could’ve ever had and maybe Freddie’s last real WBC chance

Would be fun if it wasn’t 5-0 after three or something. I just don’t think the bullpen will be able to hold on whether it’s walking guys or giving up hits or both

Who are we seeing on the mound for the US?

Yeah would have been nice having Pivetta, Freeman, Cade Smith, Sabrowksi, Tong, and Brash on the roster this year. The team put themselves in a real good spot winning their pool and playing in the Quarter Finals. It's a shame they don't have a full roster of guys that could play, but oh well.

Yeah don't want to hear it from all the Americans after on how they beat Canada again.

As long as Mark Carney doesn't make a stop down in Miami to take batting practice with the Canadian team for photo ops, I like our chances.

It COULD be closer. In a 1 game situation, anything is possible. The Canada squad could just have the game of their lives while the US quad has that weird day where everything seems off - stuff happens.

It's not probable, but it is possible.

Have to miss this one tonight, and not really bothered by it given the expected result.

This is the most important baseball game a Canadian baseball team has ever played (in 2026) and you’re skipping out?

Shame
