With the WBC officially kicking off tonight at 10pm EST, figured we should have a dedicated thread to discuss the games.

First game up is Chinese Taipei vs Australia!

Did you know that team Czechia is made up of regular guys with jobs, like an electrician firefighter, etc... fascinating. They have no shot but fascinating nonetheless.

They have a few junior college arms, and a Div 1, but yeah... household names like:

  • Terrin Vavra (2B) – Former Baltimore Orioles infielder with MLB experience. (160 games, career OPS+ of 83)

  • Marek Chlup (OF) – NPB minor leaguer and 2023 WBC breakout star with a .888 OPS.

  • Martin Muzik (1B) – Team captain and former DII National Champion; hit a key home run in 2023.

  • Martin Schneider (RHP) – Pitcher who threw 5.1 near-perfect innings in 2023 and is a veteran of the Czech Extraliga.

Some potential 6th round LOD picks next year!

Looks like Japan is out for blood here early. RIP Taipei

Yeah Taipei to lose against Australia in their first game definitely puts them up against the wall.

Some guy named Ohtani went 3/4 with a grand slam and they say he can pitch.  We should try to sign him.

Did you see that other guy on Domican Republic?? He’s got a couple homers and some big hits already in the exhibition games, we should try to sign him!

And we thought that was China’s job.

Was a good game between Mexico and GB. Tight 1-1 game for most of it but the brits fell apart in the last couple innings.

Insane atmosphere at loanpark in Miami, Nicaragua with an RBI single in the 1st and they're cheering like it was a walk-off.  Gotta love it.

THIS is what i love seeing in the WBC. The passion from these latin teams/fans. Love it.

Need to get all the old fogies out of MLB and bring on the fun attitudes

Yeah seriously, the atmosphere has been incredible so far, and it's just the beginning.

Between this and what appears to be a very realistic scenario now (based on Manfred's comments) of MLB players being allowed to play in the 2028 Olympics, I think baseball has a real chance of growing over the next few years.

Of course, perfect time for a lockout.
