Offensively, he hasn’t shown that he can consistently replicate his 2022 or 2025 production from year to year. If he’s no longer an elite defensive catcher, he’s not automatically a 2–3 WAR player. When the defense and offense are both there, he can be a 4–5 WAR catcher. But if the bat regresses and the defense begins to decline, his overall value drops pretty quickly. The front office need to tell him that he should lost weights. They did with Vlad, maybe this worked one season, but at less it's worked😄
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4 Posted August 4 Any update on Santandar? Heard he had a setback but looking for some false hope we got reinforcements coming lol

He had some discomfort in the shoukder while rehabning and had a second cortisone injection in July. Has not resumed hitting activities yet as far as I know which pretty much puts him out for the year when you consider the ramp up he would need. Jays24 1

I think it would be worse if he was healthy and just hitting like garbage like Vlad. At least this way he's out of sight, out of mind and some other guy gets a shot to cover at least some of the projected offensive output.
Governator Community Moderator Posted August 4 Posted August 4 So Gausman's next start on normal day's rest is lined up to be against the Jays in a make up game Thursday, if the give him the ball. Please give him the ball.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted August 4 Posted August 4 What's wrong with Vladdy? Ross Atkins gives a non-answer but at least they asked... Brownie19 and Spanky__99 2
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 5 Posted August 5 It's just completely and utterly ridiculous how every time there might be a little bit of light shining through, something immediately happens to make everything dark again. Jays get a good start from Scherzer off the IL, Biebs makes his 4th good start in 5 games, jays then shore up the rotation at the deadline by adding Soriano and Arrighetti, very next day Trey Yesavage hurts himself warming up. This season is a complete tire fire. never ends this ********. Spanky__99 1
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 5 Posted August 5 The funniest (saddest) thing about this season is that even with all the pitching injuries and Kirk/Springer early injuries if the offense would have just went from top 2 or 3 to middle of the pack, they'd probably be in a wild card spot. But no, it had to go from top 2 or 3 to pretty much the worst offense in baseball. Unreal. Spanky__99 1
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Boss Atkins just shouldering the blame like a man's man despite loading this team up 8 SP's deep last winter, bringing back 90% of the #1 offense & defense in baseball from last season and adding Okamoto to it. Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted Sunday at 12:15 PM Author Posted Sunday at 12:15 PM I am torn between wanting the Jays to tank and end up bottom 6 to protect their draft pick, and cheering for them to somehow get the last WC spot. They will likely end up with neither. I mean, given the way the Jays have so far rolled snake eyes across the board this season ~ mostly with injuries ~ would anyone be surprised? I was looking it up, historically picks 1-10 generate 9.8 career WAR, where as picks 11-30 generate about 4.7 career WAR.

So they did not get under the payroll threshold to keep their draft pick? How does the 10 spot penalty work? Is it on their actual pick position or their place in the standings? If they finish 9th last and win the lottery does their 1 get sent back to 11? If they finish 5th last but get screwed in the lottery to 8th, does the 8th get sent back to 18?

To win 3/4 coin flip games I think required Varland to pitch 3/4 including last nights 2 inning 30 pitch effort. It required Rogers to pitch twice including a 30 pitch effort. And everybody else had to chip in You can't have a sustained hot streak like this, first the games are coin flips and it won't always flip your way and it destroys the bullpen.
Olerud363.354 Verified Member Posted Sunday at 12:54 PM Posted Sunday at 12:54 PM I love Davis Schneider but should he be sent down for Keys ? They don't appear to trust Schneider too much anymore and maybe justifiably so. Call up Keys and play Vlad/Springer/Okamoto/Keys 75% of the time. Okamoto looks gassed. Vlad looked great after 3 days off. Springer is an old man and injury prone. Keys if called up needs regular at bats. Maybe Vlad would be pissed at being a 75% player but I think you could justify at this point. The Barry Bonds Kawai Leonard load management system. Those two loved it, get Vlad and Springer to embrace it too.,

So you would play them 100% against lefties, and keys 100% against righties with one of them getting a day off. That would work out to the right amount of load management I think and give Keys a defined role (last time he sat a lot even against righties).
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted Sunday at 05:45 PM Posted Sunday at 05:45 PM Was there any update on Santandar? He had a setback (again) as of a month ago but havent heard anything since.
