Agree with everything you said. At some point, reality has to set in. This is about to be their 11th straight losing season, Ohtani is gone, and the organization still hasn’t shown any real ability to build a serious winner around him. If he wants one last real shot at meaningful baseball while he can still impact games, this might be the point where he finally realizes staying loyal to the Angels is just wasting the rest of his career.
Laika Community Moderator Posted Friday at 02:39 PM Posted Friday at 02:39 PM Trout will remain an Angel into the last year or two of his career, when he is 38+, and he will then end up on the Dodgers in some kind of overpaid shortside platoon role getting maybe 350 PA. But he will beast out and everyone will love it and win a World Series. Brownie19 1

That realization was pretty clear years and years ago. It's been a terrible organization for a long time. He clearly doesn't care. Would there actually indications to him that things would be any different in Toronto? We're the AL version of the Mets.

Exactly. He has total control over any potential trade and I don't see any likelihood that he would pick/allow Toronto to acquire him. At the end of the world series we might have had some credit. But I'll bet this abysmal first half has probably cost about 80% of the good vibes that were there.

Maybe this year. But the Mets haven't made a WS appearance since 2015. Thats one in favour of the Jays

We're the AL version of the Mets. That is why there is no baseball until at least 2028. If you are looking to win there is one team to go to, then a second choice (Yankees). But the second choice is like 200 million (when you take into account taxes) from the first choice. But two teams that don't have losing seasons ever. Only 2. Mets/Blue Jays. Yes same brother different mother. Similar in all respects. Both, along with the Yankees will want to limit the Dodgers somehow. If you are a great player and the Dodgers want you the Dodgers get you, so need a salary cap to stop that.

Varsho also loses all power 3. Springer back to 2024 Springer 4. Barger, Ponce, Berrios, Satander out for season 5. Heineman goes back to .200 .250 .300 hitter, and so does Kirk. 6. Schneider has to spend most of the year in the minors where he is holding a .500 on base but they still don't call him back up. 7. Hoffman brutal for first third of season and needs to be removed from closer roll 8. Brandon Little has lost it so much he can't even stay around for 10 innings. -- all that you'd think they'd win 50 games -- put them together and it's a 70 win team. Stangstag 1
Sorrow Verified Member Posted yesterday at 11:09 PM Posted yesterday at 11:09 PM I think Guerreros is hitting something like .220/.240./.240 with a 45wRC+ in his last 200PA before the ASB. I think the team should be selling with how many teams look like buyers. Try and dump the last bit of Springer, move Gausman and if he does well in his next few starts Bieber. If someone offers an interesting piece for Lukes or Clement they should be on the block as well. Clement is 30, has lost a step and it’s showing in the fielding and his base running and has an offensive profile that ages poorly. Lukes is 32 and a 4th OF which should be enough said. Try and get MLB ready or near pieces like obviously don’t trade just to trade. Stangstag 1

On the block should be: - Gausman - Varsho - Bieber - Springer - Sanchez - Hoffman Basically same as the 2024 deadline, anyone on their last year or last 1.5 yrs that teams might have an interest in. Whatever you can get for Bieber/Springer is better than nothing Brownie19 and Terminator 2
glory Old-Timey Member Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Agreed about trading Clement (peak value, 31 next season, defense/sprint speed have slipped, 2 years of not-cheap-anymore arb left) but there's no chance in hell the Jays trade him. Based on this FO's history, they'll probably trade Gausman, Varsho, Bieber, and maybe Springer (10/5 guy and he's a DH that stinks this season so may not be much out there). Beyond that I'd be shocked if anyone else is moved unless there's a mandate to get under a CBT threshold or something. In which case maybe you see Hoffman, Sanchez, etc, moved.
Raineman73 Verified Member Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I am good with dealing a few pieces away, but if they go full firesale.....I am not sitting through another multi-year rebuild. And there has to be some untouchables on this team, including Varland. All of the "last contract year" veterans should be dealt, but not much more past that. Terminator 1

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Watch, the moment the Jays sell and wave the white flag on the season, Vladdy will suddenly go on an absolute tear in August and September. Omar Old-Timey Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Looking at the schedule the Jays could easily lose the next ten consecutive series (including a makeup game with the Cubs). They play the Royals in late August which you would expect them to represent. We may be at the doorstep to one of the most horrendous stretches of baseball for the team in recent memory. Hope I'm wrong but....

When there was 0 pressure on the team to perform Definitely noticed this team since 2020 has cracked/failed when given big expectations, and they tend to do well when the eyes are off them and 0 expectations.
