Starting Friday the Jays play 17 games in 17 days

Can't do bullpen days during that stretch

What's our starting rotation exactly???

Yariel Rodriquez with an opener.

Yariel could probably be an opener too if going all out, but idea would be to allow him to chill a bit and miss middle of the order.

Miles 2 innings, Yariel 4 innings.  Miles available other days.  Yariel available for 1 inning on throw day.

Why don't they do things like this?  Relievers who go 2-4 once a week, and 1 once a week.

Can I say something positive?

Yariel was electric yesterday.

  • Overall Stuff+ = 123
    • 4-seamer = 87
    • Splitter = 150
    • Sinker = 140
    • Slider = 107
  • Location+ = 103
  • Pitching+ = 119

It's only 1 inning but if he can get anywhere close to that the rest of the year he will be a very solid late inning option.

Yariel Rodriquez 2024 as starter was OK.  Better then Scherzer the last couple years.

Good enough for 5th starter?  Did they overthink this?  Maybe he'll be even better with pitch mix.

OK if not good enough for 5th starter, then what about 7th starter?  Why can't Yariel be 7th starter come in, for 20 games in case of ACL problem, oldness problem, getting released problem, arm blown problem, or arm not fixed from TJ problem.

WIth everything it is actually 1. Gaussman, 2. Cease, 3. Lauer, 4. Ponce, 5. Scherzer, 6. Corbin, 7. Yesivage, 8. Berrios, 9. Bieber 10. Yarriel Rodriquez

So Yarriel Rodriquez the 10th starter and honestly given his 2024 that is a pretty good 10th starter.  (gotta stretch him out a bit, start with a 2-2 Yarriel, Miles piggy back)

If improved over 2025 as a reliever, do you think he would also be improved over 2024 performance as a starter?  2024 in retrospect wasn't even that bad for a back of rotation starter.

Yeah idk why they dialed him back from starting, especially with this new splitter.

He probably just doesn't have the command and can't chew up the innings. Hopefully he can at least be a late-inning option or a multi-inning guy.

I think it's a combination of factors with Yariel. I don't believe he has starter level of command and his stuff was regressing very badly in the second half of last season in a shorter burst role and I suspect this would have been more severe if he were starting.

His splitter might be a nuke

The Blue Jays did it again!!!

This bullpen is nuts:

  • Late innings: Varland, Hoffman, Rogers
  • Middle Relief: Fisher, Yariel, Fluharty
  • Garbage Time: Nance, Mantiply
  • Long Relief: Miles
  • IL/AAA: Yimi, Little, Lee

The Jays are just winging it when it comes to the starting rotation.

So with days off they could use the 4 man rotation, and when we're on long stretches we can use him as an opener or bulk reliever and finish the game off with relievers(don't fret our BP is very good). Until we get guys back, of course. Read Scherzer had another setback with his forearm.

See.

Not sure if anyone mentioned but Jake Bloss started his rehab from TJS.  Pretty good first start for him, could be some more rotation help in June.

Yeah, was talked about in the minors thread, great news, was touching 97.

This is a bit out there, but the As released Junior Perez. They presumably need the 40 man space as he does have options.

He's a real CF with big exit velo who is scuffling bad in triple A.

We have an open spot. Grab him and see if you can fix him in triple A? CF is a need next year. If it doesn't work out, its an easy cut.

Yeah man, he's ranked 20th on Pipelines top 30, I'd be all over that like white on rice.

Second worst offense I have seen after 1997 and quite close actually.   Many similarities

Cease/Gausman are similar to Clemens/Hentgen

Old George Springer is roughly similar to old Joe Carter (not exactly, but kind of albeit with more recent success?)

Lenyn Sosa is similar to the right handed hitting nonsense the 1997 Jays would throw out (Brumfield, Juan Samuel) except worse.

Last in on base percentage, last in walks is exactly what they did in 1997.

We presume Shatkins, Schneider, Popkins are smarter than Gord Ash and Cito and can identify and try to fix.

If Jays aren't .500 by the end of May I think it's time to start worrying. Yes we are only 1 game out of a WC spot but the division is slowly getting away from us. We're almost 1/3 of the way through the season. We can't keep saying it's early still.

The division is a lost cause

The incompetent American League is making it look like WC3 could be an 84 win team

Yeah I don't see a 2025 style run this summer (unless Springer suddenly becomes a 6 WAR player again, among other positives), so the division is probably a pipe dream. I'd be shocked, and honestly ashamed if the Jays can't get the 3rd WC though. The AL is awful. Like legitimately awful. A .500 record might get in. Just sneak in.

They won't be, because of all the holes in the lineup. But this doesn't mean, Atkins should sit and do nothing till 2027. Hopefully guys like Sosa, Heineman, Schneider, Rodriguez will be send in Buffalo, so we keep Valenzuela, Pinango, Lukes, Macko, and add Kasevich. Also need to realize Bieber, Garcia, Scherzer, Berrios are now useless , and need be replaced by better players. Atkins should first start bring 2 very good relievers, a good SP, and someone who can hit 30 HR + .
