Use your eyes and some common sense ffs. You watch so many baseball games and yet you think Santandar is a similar defender to Springer. Listen, meat... their both bad positionally, UZR do you know what that is? I do watch the games and have played the game at a competitive level and have forgotten more about this great game than you know. As for the hyperbole about Kirk and Moreno, you can shove that up your ass, I said at the time Kirk had a better BSR then him in like May or June of the year, ya bird. How'd that trade work out by the way? Idiot. Jays24 1

Right now we assume everyone is good so Springer is EASILY the better defender. Let's hope there isnt a ball hit that way where having 1 or 2 steps to the ball is the difference. What are you even basing this assertion on? George produced the literal worst defensive metrics in the outfield in the first half of the season and then barely played the outfield afterwards. That should speak volumes to you about what the team thinks of his outfield defense at this point of his career. Spanky__99 1

Besides the concern with him playing right field and affecting his hitting I think is if he's doing it every day during the season. To jump in here and there during the postseason I don't think would have any great impact.

Except Santandar in RF wasn't part of our winning formula. Im not saying put Springer there because hes a gold glover, hes just the better of the two. And if Springer was on a tear offensively this series, id say leave him be but hes not. So go out there and help the team in every way possible.

We can only hope that tonight's game is one of those improbable games where the team pulls off an unexpected victory. If the middle relief can avoid handing the Yankees a bushel full of runs for the first time in the series I like their chances.

You really have no idea if it gives them a better chance to win or not. It's nearly impossible for us to sit here and weigh the value of "slightly" worse defense in RF v. the potential benefit of Springer taking all of his at bats. Neither situation could play a role in this game, or one or the other could play a HUGE role in the outcome of this game. Pretending you know the answer to that right now is dumb. It isn't some obvious, glaring error that you need to dissect. I'll warn you now - it's also such a coin flip that it isn't something you should be able to come back here and claim victory on if something doesn't go our way. That's call hindsight and just because you picked one side of a coin and were right - doesn't mean the decision was wrong. Spanky__99 1

He was as good as Bassitt this year (who isn't stretched out and coming off injury) and he was better than Max - especially over the last month. Just tell yourself this. Lauer is starting, but they are using an opener. Lauer deserves this start more than an injured Bassitt, Max or Berrios IMO. He's been nails in several different roles all season long. Lauer was a blessing this Season after Bowden Francis s*** the bed. But he is no longer streched out. Most of his recent outings have been an inning plus a batter or 2 and his results have been mixed out of the pen. He’s also extremely prone to the long ball and is facing the best HR hitting team in this Mickey Mouse Stadium. I can’t be the only who doesn’t like this matchup Jays24 1
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 If the Jays are up by three runs or more and it is past the halfway point in the game ~ say the fifth inning mark I don't have a problem with bringing Gausman in to pitch out of the pen for two innings or more if it means closing this game down. Do what you can to win today and if not then go with Yesavage in game 5. Spanky__99 and Jays24 2

I thought it was odd at the time. And he's been very reserved ever since. There was also a quote from Davis Schneider before game 3 where he said something to the effect that the off day was good because Springer needs rest cause he's old. Springer is definitely not at 100% Edit for the actual tweet: Spanky__99 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 23 minutes ago, max silver said: The issue with Lauer is that he isn't stretched out sufficiently to provide a typical start to the team. He's only pitched up to 40-50 pitches at most over the last month so all that could be expected of him would be 2-3 innings unless he manages to be super efficient recording outs. What were the chances Bassitt or Max were going to give you more than 40-50 pitches? That probability was like 2%

Lauer behind an opener is objectively a better option than trying to get innings out of Scherzer or Berrios. Probably also Bassitt, but he might have been hurt and not an option anyway. Whether it works or not is a different question. We are talking about picking your favourite dildo, here. Odds are they all hurt, just differently. Laurer is for sure better. Scherzer is washed, for one, and the Yankees typically bring 5+ lefties to the batting order.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2025 Posted October 8, 2025 Tony had his breakout year in 2022. Since then... as DH 80 wRC+, 581 PA In the field 129 wRC+, 1602 PA Maybe that means nothing, but since Springer seems to be the opposite (prefers being DH from the sounds of it), I think it's probably a reasonable decision to go with that alignment. As long as JS is ready for a defensive replacement late if necessary. Spanky__99, Governator, Brownie19 and 3 others 6

I can’t be the only who doesn’t like this matchup He's stretched out enough to give you 40-60 pitches. Max or Bassitt wouldn't give you anymore. Lauer is essentially just as prone to giving up the HR as Bassitt is and he's better than Max - so I have no idea what you're getting at. Do I wish we had a better 4th starter than Lauer? Yes - obviously I do, but he's as good of an option as this team has, so suggesting the team failed to carry a 4th starter is dumb. Lauer is the 4th starter and he's as good of a bet to give us 3 innings as Bassitt or Max are. Spanky__99 1
