Dominguez is a potential walk machine. This is fine in high leverage where you really only need him to get a couple of big outs, but not to start a game where you might need the opener to cover 2 innings.

I think the plan is bullpen tonight and if it got to game 5 you use Gausman for 4-5 innings and then bring in Trey for 3-4 innings right after.

Ya I think that's their plan but Yesavage would be on normal rest for Game 5 after being pulled early to help with that in Game 2.  Thats why I want everything Gausman can give the team for today, we need it much more than Game 5.

It all comes down to how the game goes. If you're losing by 4-5+ runs you don't use him and you keep him to play game 5 at home on an extra day's rest. 

If the game is tight especially with a small lead and you've used up your trusted relievers than absolutely you should throw him out there.

Edit: if you're winning by several runs I still use him because it would be so nice to close it out and not have to go to some of the relievers who got beat up yesterday

I don't think he pitched bad. It's overblown by a well placed 100mph heater that only Judge hit out of the park in all comparables.

The bigger problem of course was allowing Judge to come up with 2 runners on base 

Although to be fair Bieber did get robbed of a strike that was critical

I mean, there's a lot of what ifs in that game. 

- The Barger / Schneider error really changed that inning from 2 outs 1 on for Judge to 1 out with 2 on
- Could have walked Judge in either scenario and got out of the inning clean in retrospect

I don't see them using Gausman today. The Blue Jays don't have their backs against the wall. I think they want to save him for game 5 and have Yesavage available to back him up. That is your true nuclear option and you don't use it unless you need to. I don't think they will do anything reckless with Bieber considering he's coming back from surgery. 

If everyone in the bullpen just does their job we can use many of the same guys we used yesterday along with Dominguez and Hoffman.

It doesn't seem smart to me to game plan a plan that will have Varland facing Judge when Judge has 3 homers in 6 at bats against him. I know Judge likely has great stats against lots of our guys and it's hard to avoid him but c'mon right????  I guess I'm saying I hope they plan to be smart and intentionally walk him in the right spots...

I guess thats where our mentalities differ... every game is a must win to me in the playoffs.  You should never save your bullets for a future game if you can use some of them to help you win in the moment.

Even if we somehow manage to advance to ALCS, I am nervous about this bullpen. Our bullpen allowed 12 runs combined in the game 2 and 3.

Kirk goes 6-14 with 4 HRs and 9 RBIs in his past 3 games and the second he goes 0-4, people complain about his bat.

If this was an elimination game for us, I’d agree. But its not. You don’t use bullets like Gausman IMO because then it leaves you fkd for game 5.

Yesavage should be starting Game 5 with him emptying the clip anyways.  We would be using Gausman in a bullpen role for Game 5 so why not Game 4 when the team needs it more?
