Sounds like Yesavage might actually be the secret weapon tonight. And why they pulled him at 70+ pitches.

I would guess they only burn him today if the circumstances dictate. Something like, late lead and for whatever reason all the trustworthy relievers are spent.

Watching the Schneider interview now and yeah he just said it. Yesavage more likely to be used than Gausman tonight.

I really hope we don't have to do this. But if we do have to do this I really really hope it results in a winning effort. Honestly I'm not comfortable on completely relying on Gausman in game 5, they got better swings off of him and this will be the sixth time they've seen him and the second time in a week. I'd much rather have Yesavage be available for bulk innings in a game we would have to win.

Depending on how many innings Yesavage throws he could still be available for spot duty in game 5 as well.

Not a fan of using Yesavage tonight. Go with what you have, and if it doesn't work, then go with a Gausman/Yesavage tandem in Game 5 and hope for the the best. Giving JS the green light to use anyone is terrifying because he absolutely will. If it's late and the Jays are leading and Yesavage is the best option they have left, then that's one thing, but otherwise save him for a possible Game 5. The Yankees seeing nothing but splitters all day Friday (if it gets there) on the road should be the goal.

Have you seen what we've done to Yankees starting pitching? If Gausman, who's done well all year and has had successful starts against the Yankees is a concern, imagine how the Yankees feel about theirs.

People are acting like all the familiarity is on the Yankees' side, but we're seeing all the arms from the Yankees' pen each game and the starters we've faced a bunch too.

What if that is misdirection for the Yankees and they actually use Gausman. I would prefer Yesavage in game 5 at this point. I know it's asking a lot out of the rookie but you gotta dance with who bring ya and Yesavage got us here.

That was an excellent presser with Schneider - some really good questions (most the US reporters)  and responses by Schneider

I suppose

Then you still have Gausman as expected tomorrow if you need to play game 5

And extra days off if it works out tonight

Or maybe he was just trying to scare them LOL.

IDK my head hurts I just want to watch the game

Yeah I agree, i don’t like the panic that John is showing here. I feel like it has a mental effect on the team too. Manager is talking about using starters out of the bullpen in game 4 after a quick hook last night, smells like panic. Players will notice.

I have generally not had much problem with Schneider's management this year, I really don't think the manager matters a whole lot over 162 games one way or the other so I pay little mind to it.

But in a short series like this, his decisions are of paramount importance, I sense panic in him and I fear the decisions this might lead to.

Yes, Santander  to Kirk to 2nd to nail the runner. lol

Thats not the same play dude. Santander dove and missed, Varsho fielded the ball and runners ended up on 2nd/3rd

90% catch probability.

Myles Straw could have had a coffee and a biscuit and still had time to catch the ball chest high.

The 90% catch probability does not take into account the wind.  It was windy as f***.   Everyone is seemingly giving Barger a pass.  Santander's ball was the harder play given the conditions.

He had a bad read off the bat

I don't think anybody is giving Barger a pass. But the LF should call off the 3B on that play 10/10 times.

But if Barger calls for it, he better be able to make the play.

He makes that play 99 times out of 100.  The wind was a big factor.

Yeah, my bad. 🤪

I'm thinking of the inning before, that Vlad missed the grounder..

My point is, 100 times out of 100 the LF should have called him off. Thats why Barger isn't catching as much heat.

the wind, Bellinger was camped under a fly ball and almost had one go over his hand

Wind or not that ball needs to be caught by a major league player. Zero excuse. I will have to watch it again but I recall Barger very vocally and demonstratively calling off Davis to catch that ball. It was the Outfielders ball. So if you’re calling him off you better catch it.

True and its why they lost. So they better tighten up tonight because the margins are much tighter tonight. Good chance 10 or 11 pitchers tonight if the game is close.

Barger 4th is interesting. He doesn't really deserve it.

HOWEVER they might have a matchup idea. Maybe they like his chances of jumping a Schlittler fastball more than those of Varsho and Santander (who I could see just getting destroyed by high velo up)

They want him there so they can pinch hit IKF once a lefty comes into the game.

Today is Yesavage's throw day. He could throw an inning today and still be available for heavy work in Game 5. We have a lot of relievers who should be used before it gets to that.

Schneider and Atkins are very set in their gameplan though, so if they want him tonight, we will see him tonight.
