JaysfaninFL Verified Member Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 Absolutely criminal abuse of the bullpen. Schneider simply can't figure out who to use or when to deploy them. Its the one albatross that will never let him succeed at this level if he can't figure it out. I get that he's a good guy, but how the players have any faith in his leadership is beyond me. Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 You have to win games against the Guardians at home when JRam is not in the lineup. These are the kinda losses that end up biting you in the ass in September. Think 2021 Blue Jays. jaysblue and Stangstag 2
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 I know Hoffman threw 26 pitches last night, but that made him unavailable? He should be able to pitch on back-to-back days.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 Tough loss. This one stings especially after the outing Gausman had! We could have been looking at a sweep tomorrow!

It feels like they go into a game or inning often with a plan they want to stick too and don’t adjust based on what is happening. We’ve seen starters dealing pulled early or after a single runner reaches base and cases where guys who don’t have it are left in longer than they should. Stangstag 1

hanton Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2025 Posted May 3, 2025 Riley Greene first ever to hit 2 home runs in the 9th inning; yesterday, today Schneemann in the 8th and 9th.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 The Bullpen has been so good you almost expect this to happen at some point. The offense is more to blame. So many chances to add runs and failed miserably. Stangstag 1

He correctly wasn't available. Stangstag and max silver 2

glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 The Guardians offense minus Ramirez is basically the April 2025 Blue Jays offense. It sucks. They should have just tried Tate/Walker to get 3 outs in the 7th, and then went with Fluharty and Green in the 8th and 9th. Maybe that ends up failing too, but Garcia for the 3rd time in 4 days given his health issues last season was an unnecessary risk to take this early in the season. The offense is ultimately the reason for the loss, you can't expect the pitching to be perfect every time, and when John Schneider has to be near perfect from a managerial standpoint in order to win, then you've already set yourself up for disaster. This guy has been making s***** bullpen decisions for as long as he's been here. The offense has to at least take that out of his hands every now and then, but since 2023 they haven't been able to. jaysblue and Stangstag 2

Half the posters here were talking up Yimi like he’s the second coming of christ literally this week. Bigger issue is our manager can’t use his eyes to see when a guy just doesn’t have it. Similar situation with Gausman in that Yankees doubleheader game. The dude js just dumb as a sack of potatoes, or the front office has their hands so far up his ass he’s scared to act. jaysblue 1
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Oh I think that's a bit harsh. I think Yimi gives us the best chance to win that game, even if he's gassed. Only other guy I'd consider over him in that situation is Little and I think he's been used a ton lately as well. Stangstag 1
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Also, sucks that Sandlin is on the IL. He definitely would have been part of the picture today.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Gausman was at 94 pitches and pretty much in cruise control the entire game. Though if the Jays knew they were going to be short in the pen, do you think he could have went one more inning? Not sure it would have made a difference, but just a question. I understand if he was already over 100 pitches and labouring most of the game.

I want him pushed to 100+ but pitch count isn't everything - I only caught bits and pieces of the game, did he have any stressful innings? maybe they were just being cautious given his last start. jaysblue 1

But I do generally agree, sneaking another couple of outs from Gausman would have been ideal. jaysblue and Stangstag 2

You can't run the same guys every night and expect them to be sharp. I don't know if either of Tate or Walker have earned enough trust to be thrust into setup situations.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 I really don't understand the bullpen decision criticisms. Yimi is very good, a veteran, probably wanted the ball. He didn't get it done. Clearly and understandably Hoffman wasn't available. Tough loss and s*** luck but it's not like Schneider left this washed up version of Chad Green out there to blow a save or something. Brownie19 and Orgfiller 2

I don't know if bringing in Yariel Rodriguez with the bases loaded was really a better alternative though. Ultimately the team desperately needs more arms that can be trusted in leverage situations assuming they are going to be involved in a lot of close games moving forward. jaysblue, Stangstag and Orgfiller 3
