Blue Jays off to a horrendous marketing start.

Get destroyed at home opener.

Security kicks out a patriot.

Second game isn't even on TV.

Who got kicked out?

Some patriotic old timer wearing a "Canada is not for sale" hat.  An usher demanded he remove it because they have a 'no political messages' policy.

The Canadian patriot stuck to his guns and they escorted him out like a common criminal.  Not a good look.

Did I read that he’s been apologized too and invited back? Not that it looks great to begin with but at least it might have been a legitimate mistake.

So we can't watch this game unless we have Apple TV+? FFS!

Second game on the season and first Friday night game lol. So stupid!

I wonder if more and more games will be moving to streaming with MLB breaking ties with MLB.

*I meant ESPN

Either streaming or broadcast (NBC, Fox, CBS). Manfred seems to want to avoid cable, which is smart given its decline. The Apple TV deal happened because the league took a haircut on their last media rights agreement with ESPN and used Apple to make up the difference. It was a bad decision, not because they went to a streaming service, but because no one has Apple TV, and no one is going to get it just for MLB games. Just have to suck it up for a couple more years, unfortunately.

Last I read the ESPN rights are likely to be split between several different partners. Since the Jays are never on Sunday Night Baseball anyway it won't make a difference for Jays fans, but probably looking at Netflix getting the Home Run Derby, NBC getting Sunday Night Baseball, and stuff like that as an example. Unfortunately Apple doesn't have any issues with having Jays games, probably hoping for an increase in Canadian subs.

Not a good look but as long as its consistent on both sides of the spectrum I don't have a problem with it. Having been living in the US since June for work. Even in Texas the sentiment isn't really negative towards Canada. They do hate the booing of the Anthem which I also don't like but understand why.

Interesting - I would have thought otherwise in Texas.  My parents are in a park called Maple Leaf in Florida - it was created by Canadians years ago, but is home to both US and CAN people these days.  They have a record number of homes for sale right now with almost zero interest from anyone to buy.

This seems like a marketing disaster for the Jays - although after last night, I doubt there are many fans even interested in watching the game today.  I'm glad they boo'd them in the 9th - what a joke.

Today's lineup:

SS Bo
1B Vlad
DH Santander
2B Gimenez
CA Kirk
RF Springer
3B Wagner
CF Lukes
LF Roden

I guess the team doesn't want to insult Springer so much by dropping him below 6th, which causes 3 LHB in a row from 7-9. Of course the Jays have RHB options off the bench in case the O's bring in a LHP in relief to face that part of the lineup, but the RHB on the bench are Schneider (50 wRC+ against LHP in 2024), Clement (73 wRC+ against LHP in 2024), and Straw (68 wRC+ against LHP in his career, barely played in 2024). I guess the team can hope that Schneider develops into a bit of a lefty masher. The other two likely are what they are.

I doubt the SSS for Clement and Schneider make any if at all of a difference here in terms of matchups. If the bottom 3 come up with a lefty due up then certainly they're getting replaced first with Schneider, then with Clement and then Straw in an emergency. One of Wagner/Roden is probably better than Straw against lefties anyway lol, but if Lukes gets pulled or we need to shuffle the defense around then Straw might come in anyway.

Just remember: They can't hurt you if you expect nothing.

Go Jays!

After watching a full year of the Raptors tanking, I'm hoping the Jays can at least give me something positive this year lol

How people don't have a IPTV box in 2025 is crazy.  8 dollars per month to watch every sport/movie/show lol.

Which one do you have?

Couple of sliders/cutters inside to lefties already. Awkward swing from Rutschman on one of them. Good sign for giving hitters a different look and not allowing them to sit on the splitter with 2 strikes.
