The LOOGYs and other depth relievers trying to make a case for a roster spot are completely gas canning. Jacob Barnes, Dick Lovelady, Fluharty all struggling immensely with control.

Just saw that Chafin signed pretty cheap the other day

Jays have a SS day tomorrow, Bassitt and Bloss start their games, Tigers are in Dunedin at 1 in the afternoon, should likely be filled heavily with regulars, and the evening game against the Yankees will likely see plenty of young guys and ST fillers I'd imagine. 2 games televised at different times in the same day is kind of sweet.

The big boy bats are all getting their swings in this game. Varsho with the hardest hit ball of the game thus far at 109.4 mph, and that wasn't even on his HR which Statcast didn't pick up. Encouraging sign that his raw power seems to not have been affected by the shoulder injury.

Bloss getting rocked. Lots of people saying how he should factor in this year and hes close to ready for the majors but the fastball looks pretty flat and so far he's been pretty bad with the Jays going back to AAA last year.

Bloss seems like a pretty ordinary prospect. As long as he’s serviceable #5 quality depth then it’s fine, but I wouldn’t expect anything much more than that.

His numbers were pretty good in Houston so I was somewhat excited. But his numbers since getting the Jays org. have been pretty ugly honestly.

Every Jays pitcher that reacts AAA turns into a pumpkin.

Reports he was throwing 97-98 MPH in his first start were encouraging there may be more there, but I agree, the Jays would be very happy if he was a reliable #4/#5 for the next several years.

Arjun Nimmala 1 for 3 with a double.  I can't help but get excited about this kid.  Physically he's really strong for his age.  He just turned 19 in October.  If you look back at images of Bichette when he was 19 there's no comparison.  Arjun is much more physically developed at that age.  This kid could blow through the minor leagues this year and be pushing for spot next year. The physical maturity is there.

Yes, that's what he's pegged as by prospect affiliates. I think health, being fresh and being amped up in his first start helped him getting there with the velo, will be interesting to follow.

I liked the stuff he was featuring but the command is definitely a work in progress as he grooved a bunch of fastballs.

I was impressed by Nimmala in the field as he was silky smooth at short stop and flashed a very strong arm. He wasn't overly challenged by any of the plays but I thought he looked very sure handed vs Bo who has people holding their breath when the ball is hit his way.

Bo was much improved last season. Up to 55th percentile defensive value and 70th percentile range.

Arm...yeah, that's his weaker spot for sure at 37th percentile.  Which is a flip from where he used to be...70th percentile arm and 10th percentile range.

Random notes.

- Funny stat line for Myles Straw.

AVG .455 - OBP .417 - SLG .455

- Saw 2AB from Roden yesterday and I did not like his stance and discipline. Doesn’t take away his good early spring.

Agree with you guys, Nimmala looks promising. Watched the 2nd game yesterday and Dasan Brown looked sharp defensively. Barger has to put his s*** together, he’s starting in Buffalo for sure !

Bo tends to go in defensive slumps where he makes a bunch of mistakes and his metrics have a tendency to plummet as this occurs. I hope that it will be possible to track changes to the metrics a little more easily at some point in the future to make it easier to quantify the drops to the various metrics once the inevitable slump hits.

I think his arm strength has never been much of an issue, I believe his issues stem from poor mechanics at times that leads to the errant throws. We shall see how the range looks this season after the barrage of calf issues last season, hopefully that hasn't been overly affected.

It would be so amazing to see Bo have a vintage, healthy season and rip off 4.5 WAR again.  It would put immense pressure on the FO on how to deal with that.  I've always been a big fan of Bo and it would be interesting if he has a vintage season, of the Jays could get him back long-term for like half or less of what Vlad will cost

Oh man, I have to say that I was very surprised at the maturity in the field for a 19 year old.  He's looking good, the kid has some tantalizing potential for sure.

He also looks way more comfortable at SS than Bo. Seems to have good hands and feel
