Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/02/red-sox-to-sign-alex-bregman.html An opt out after each season and an extremely high salary really limits the upside of this deal, although it also limits the risk. I wouldn't have wanted the Jays to do this. Spanky99, Terminator, wilko and 1 other 4
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I'm shocked he got 40M per season. Why the hell are there even opt outs here lol

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 FU Bregman, hope you suck the next 3 years hard. 😜 JaysAllMighty, Omar and Stangstag 3

He will never get more than 40M per season in free agency so it's safe to say he'll be a Red Sox for 3 years. Dude got paid like he was coming off his MVP season or something. Lol

BB17 Verified Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I mean its only 3 years, that's why he got 40M. The Opt outs make it a pretty good deal for him though. Red Sox looks pretty good right now. AL East is gonna be a dog fight. You could make the case all 5 teams in the East look better than any team in the Central. Stangstag and Jays24 2

Lol He hits a lot of flyballs to LF from what I remember hearing, so he could potentially have a good season in Boston, take the 40m, then sign a 150/6 contract next year and still come out ahead.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Trade 4 Trout at the deadline when the Angels are 12 games out and we're neck and neck for 2nd/3rd place Jays24 1

Yeah he could potentially have a good season in Boston, taking advantage of the Green Monster and dimensions, turning it into a larger contract. Which position does he play now?

Masterbather Verified Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I am unbothered by this.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 I wonder if this deal takes Boston out of the Vladdy FA sweepstakes assuming Vlad is a FA and Devers is going to 1st. The odds on FA favorites were the Mets and Red Sox.

Which position does he play now? You can't move a gold glove 3B who you paid 40M just to keep Devers there can you?

I don't think teams are stupid enough to fall for that given the statistics they have access to. If a bunch of average fans are aware of that then I'm sure baseball executives around baseball doling out massive sums of money are aware of that. Wasn't Bellinger hurt by advanced statistics revealing him to be a bit of a phony or am I misremembering?
