For sure but it's not like there are teams beating down his door to make a much better offer.  I'm baffled by the small numbers being presented at this stage.

Teams are undervaluing what it means to have a solidified number 3/4 hitter on your team.  The Jays did it with Teo and now the Mets will regret it with Pete if he leaves.

One dimensional players simply aren't worth as much.  The contract we just got Tony Taters for seems to back that up, as does the deal Teo got.

And I disagree with that approach if that one dimension is what your team needs.   Like I said, teams are undervaluing what having a good to great number 3/4 hitter means.

This team just traded for a one dimensional 2nd baseman on a 6/100M deal and I'd argue this team needs a middle of the bat player more than it needs a defensive 2nd baseman.  Now if he plays SS, it's a different story.

I'd wager that MLB front offices that are paid to  build teams know more about the value of defensively limited sluggers than you do.

Alonso and Santander are pretty near the same thing. How much more is Alonso asking for above what Santander signed for. It sounds like his ask is unrealistic. He turned down a 3 year 23aav offer from the Mets.

Agreed

He's delusional

Santander was realistic and smart

What was in store for all of these guys was shown clearly last off-season

I wonder if it’s more Alonso or more Boras? Or both.

if anything the Mets offer seems like a slight overpay.

Either way it's bad when the owner himself is involved and gets annoyed.

I imagine it’s comparable to trying to convince a flat earther that the world’s round.

There are some questions in the advanced metrics as to how much longer Alonso would provide that one dimension even.  And to be fair, Giménez also offers speed in addition to being absolutely elite on defense.

Then why do we even talk on this messageboard, let's just sign off on everything they do...

And I'll choose to trust a front office that isn't universally laughed at and on the verge of being fired lol.

Come on now, that’s kind of a cop out. Because we don’t work for an MLB front office we can’t comment on the value of certain players? Prospects sure, but a guy with 3 MLB seasons has more than enough data for us to be able to form an opinion.

I’ve seen a few rumblings that the Jays and Alonso have a 3 year $80 million deal done as well as the physical being complete. Apparently the hold up is just finalizing signing bonus and deferrals. It would be similar to Santanders with opt outs and options that could extend the deal.

Will be interesting to see if this actually happens as the sources have been accurate in the past but not people I’m super familiar with.

Boras is probably busy trying to get the Mets to match. It's obvious the Mets are Alonso's preference.

Hopefully true. Another masher would be great for the line up.

If Bo bounced back and they could have 6 guys with 20+ home runs,  and 3 of those have hit 40+

Can't blame him... we hope to get the same luxury if Vlad hits free agency lol.

Who says I was even specifically talking about the Blue Jays front office? MLB as a whole has stopped paying top dollars to one dimensional sluggers in recent offseasons, and this has even extended to the Cohen led Mets.

Anyone: Jays fans have had their hearts broken and dreams dashed so many times, there's nothing you could do that would be worse while using their Front Office as leverage for a better deal.

Pete: Multiple social media hints?

Anyone: Done.

Pete: Unconfirmed insider reporting an airplane tracker has me traveling to Toronto?

Anyone: Been there.

Pete: Confirmed industry source guaranteeing/predicting my imminent signing?

Anyone: So cliche it's tired.

Pete: ...............what if I went so far as to take an actual physical?

Anyone: tell me more.

Yea, as a Team they need to go from 26th in HRs to top 10. All the teams that made the playoffs were top 10 in HRs.

If my quick adding is right we’re currently projected by Streamer for 202 HRs which would have put us at 7th last season.
