I think I would rather just sign a $5M 1 WAR player off the FA pile and then pay for a solid RP upgrade with the rest of that money. Could probably get something like: ONE OF Brendan Rodgers / JDM / Turner / Kike / Pham / Moncada, Canha, France, Rowdy, Rizzo etc. etc. + ONE OF Robertson, Jansen, Kimbrel, Ottavino, Finnegan, Coulombe, Barlow, Kelly, Robertson, Chafin, Jackson, Kahnle, Beeks etc. etc. Yeah you are probably right. My guess is the Padres would eat some of Arraez's deal OR they would throw in a reliever who has some surplus value to make it worth it. Or maybe even both. Arraez would be fun to have, though he's probably not a very shrewd addition.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 I could live with Arraez if they didn't have to give up much to get him. There is not much else left in free agency that is realistic now that Profar is gone (would have been an ideal fallback option), and Arraez would only be a one year commitment at age 28, so maybe you can dream on a high 2's or 3 WAR in a contract year. Obviously if you could aim higher (Robert) then go for it, but that's probably wishful thinking. An Arraez/Scherzer combo wouldn't be terrible. Maybe put Orelvis at 3B (if his defense is passable) so you at least have an extra power threat in there to compensate for a singles hitting DH, but not sure his contact skills are MLB ready yet.

He'll give the Jays a leg up on future Korean players coming over. Can forget about Kim. Signed with the Rays,, 2 years $29m with an opt out after year 1. Stangstag and Spanky99 2

I believe Pete rejected 7/157, which is like 22.5M per season. He will probably earn more per year from what's being floated around so I wouldn't say it's that big of a screw up tbh.

Although with his skillset, 7 years guaranteed money isn't bad. Jays24 1
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2025 Posted January 31, 2025 If Alonso doesn't sign with the Jays he's a coward. Steve Cohen is publicly insulting him and the fact he's even still considering the Mets is making me question if we even want him. He's obviously got low confidence. But if he signs with the Jays I will take it all back. Spanky99, Gen.Disarray, GoBlue41 and 3 others 6
