Ross frantically texting BNS after the Dodgers got Sasaki.

"BennnnNnnn!!!! Launch the Tony Taters rumours please bro send the tweeeeeet!"

The embarrassment of this Sasaki ordeal, especially with absorbing the contract of one of the worst players in the sport, might lead to the desperation many of us were expecting from this front office.

It's going to get ugly.

Guaranteed we end up with like the only player I did not want to sign

Ross is going to give him the Springer contract just to make sure he doesn’t get away

Legit wouldn't be surprised if the Jays gave him 5/100 now.

No that wouldn’t shock me one bit

Jays are going to panic just like they did with the Straw trade and now overpay some FA thinking it will get them back into a better public perception while just digging themselves a bigger hole.

Atkins is doing his best.  As much as I want to rip him, sadly he is part of a piss poor organization.  Is he a great GM? Absolutely not, but if he were in an attractive market he might have a different story to tell.

He’s the head of player personnel of this supposed piss poor organization which has given him a top 5 payroll and the best player development complex in MLB

Still doesn’t measure up to the big whales in the league.  An organization can give you the world but if no one recognizes it then what are we talking about?

I don’t hate him for trying to for these deals and he’s done well to make it as far as he has in them

but this last one was bad, we ended up with a bum contract

he has enough to succeed. I think the organization would be rated higher in MLB compared to other orgs than Atkins would to other GMs. this is a top 10 job but he’s not a top 10 gm

If only we had a FO that could promise waves and waves of talent coming through the minor league system

Santandar coupled with another big bat would become massive moves to me.  Then sign the best/cheapest SP4/5 and I'm all aboard the hype train for 2025.

How big is that second bat?  Is Profar the line?

Bregman or Alonso because Profar wouldn't fit if we got Santandar.  Bregman would be ideal for defensive purposes but it'll all come down to the type of contracts these guys still want at this stage.

It's crazy because that would give us a payroll around 300M so it seems doubtful but Rogers might feel super embarrassed and say f*** it for at least 1 year.

2B Bo

3B Bregman

1B Vlad

LF Satandar

RF Springer

CF Varsho

C Kirk

DH Whoever

SS Gimenez

I put Varsho before Kirk just to separate the lefties at the bottom.  World Series will be easy to win!

I could see Alonso, but not Bregman happening.  Profar would be fine positionally, but I agree it's not ideal. Him and Santander would split time between LF and DH.  I guess it blocks Wagner a bit, but so would Alonso.

I've always been a proponent of never just handing guys like Wagner/Barger/Clement starting spots.  You need guys like this to knock the door down to force your hand with the part time opportunities they get.

And ya, I could see Alonso/Santandar more likely too but it would obviously be a downgrade defensively and also occupy the DH spot most of the time.

I still see a path towards becoming world series contenders but it will just require Rogers opening the checkbook even more than they already have.  It's either this approach or just start the rebuild already, which I don't think they want to do.

They are willing to pay Myles Straw $11M for the next 2 years. At this point just run up a payroll of $280M or something and try to buy your way into a playoff spot. Alonso, Santander, Flaherty, Profar, whoever. No sense hoping for a rebuild as it won't happen, and they can't get a lottery pick in 2026 anyway. It is what it is.

Wow... if Sasaki doesn't sign here then this is going to be worse than the 2024 off-season.  A team on a budget crunch using money to spend on a scrub who can be filled with from AAA.
