Payroll next year 📈

Also, think about how many more Sportsnet+ subscriptions were just sold, extended ... etc.

Don't forget about Woodruff. He will be in the mix for sure if he's willing to come east

All jokes aside, what the Jays have done so far this year probably isn't hurting their chances at bringing in some big name FAs.

Between Vladdy signing lomg term, basically having 90% of the team under control, having a deep playoff run and for FA pitchers the chance to have the best D in the league behind them can't hurt either.

Ross "The Boss" Atkins cemented his place as the 2nd best GM in Jays history with the win yesterday. Also, for some reason remembered this quote from Shapiro at the beginning of our window when we signed Springer

Sure enough, this has come to pass. We've steadily increased payroll year over year, and I'm sure ownership will be spending this offseason to supplement this core even more

Ross the boss is right.

The waves of talent are arriving and will continue to splash onto the Blue Jays shores for years to come and they will have the ability to spend to maintain it. Will be like the Brewers or Rays but with money. Or like the Dodgers Northeast.

Yeah

You don't give your cornerstone player 500M, make it to the World Series, grow viewership/revenue, and not keep pushing the next year

The way the season ended I just can't honestly say I expected anything like this from Vladdy. But he has been an absolute monster when he was needed the most.  Those few days off from clinching the division probably helped.

I believe I saw it mentioned that Vlad was dealing with a bit of a groin issue in the final days of the regular season and the rest was a godsend for him. It does make sense that he didn't have a solid base beneath him over the last few weeks given how weak his swing looked.

Bieber + Bo at 2B + major bullpen additions are all i ask for in the offseason.  We have more than enough offense when you consider Santandar cant be this useless next year.

Anyone who thinks the Jays won’t keep spending is clueless. Rogers loves money. And the Blue Jays being good and going deep into the playoffs is basically printing money. The amount of merch and revenue they heve sold and generated this run alone is off the charts.

They will be in on every major free agent including Murakami. Toronto will be in the spotlight of the major Japanese media contingent that will be coming on through.

The Jays don't need to pour money into major bullpen additions. They need to pour money into the rotation more than anything.

Every reliever they have is under control for next season except for Seranthony Dominguez. Plus Sandlin, Burr and hopefully Yimi should all factor in as well. And who knows what else they will have cooking in the upper minors for relief arms. Plus guys a guy like Bastardo should factor in the bullpen as they need to keep him on the MLB roster or give him back to the Red Sox.

Beiber/Gausman/Berrios/Yesavage/Lauer or Francis is a really good pitching staff.  The Jays need a true back end closer so we can use Hoffman as our high leverage arm any time throughout the game.

Anyways, this is more of an offseason discussion.  Too focused on the world series to spend time discussing this now.

Really hope extensions are in the works for Shapiro and Atkins.

Unless I was seeing things, Shapiro was celebrating the Jays Game 7 win in a suite with Ed Rogers in it. If he’s not already extended, then it’s likely just a formality at this point.

But regardless of what happens in the WS, the front office deserves a lot of credit for this season.

I've said this for a while.  I think Shapiro has his eyes on the job of commisioner.  Manfred is retiring in 2029 so I would guess Shapiro stays in Toronto until maybe a year or two prior to that (if he feels like he needs some exposure to the league offices before the opening).

Edit:  Further to this, the Jays are rumoured to get the 2028 all star game.  That could be a showcase to the league of all the good Shapiro has done in Toronto with turning the aging Roger's Centre back into a very impressive facility.   Even just hearing all the National media going on about the clubhouse as they saw the celebrations after game 7 shows how well he has done with the transformation.

I keep thinking about the Angels and Mike Trout. Not the same thing, but they gave him a big contract and just kept on messing up on all fronts. Such as waste.

You also gotta blame Trout for not giving a f*** and never demanding out.  Seems like he was ok sucking as long as he got to to stay in LA.

“The Brewers hold an $8MM club option on Freddy Peralta‘s services for 2026, which represents the team’s last bit of control from what was initially a five-year, $15.5MM extension signed by the right-hander back in February 2020.  With Peralta now slated for free agency during the 2026-27 offseason, it is possible he has already thrown his last pitch in a Brewers uniform, as The Athletic’s Andy McCullough writes that Milwaukee is “expected to at least field offers for” Peralta’s services.”

1 of Tucker/Bellinger, drop Bo, sign a starter. Successful offseason IMO.

Gimenez at SS

2B/3B covered by Barger/Clement/Schneider

I don't have to focus on the WS right now, I'm not playing in it. And while I wait for it start so I can watch, I'll respond I guess.

That rotation COULD be good, but...

Bieber technically isn't signed yet

Gausman is another year older, but should be good still

Berrios was circling the drain all season and is now on the IL, hopefully comes back strong but hardly a sure thing

Yesavage clearly looks legit, but still a rookie and may back slide

Lauer, had a nice season but still one year removed from the KBO

Francis, see Berrios but waaaaaay worse

Too many question marks, the Jays should pull out all the stops to land two mid to front end starters IMO. That's going to eat up $45-55 million probably?

As for the pen....

1. Hoffman

2. Varland

3. Fisher

4. Fluharty

5. Little

6. Rodriguez

7. Bruihl

8. Nance

9. Burr

10. Garcia

11. Sandlin

12. Bastardo (probably)

13. Borucki

14. Tate

I mean, a literal plethora of useful relievers under control. Plus they've got 4 relievers that finished in AA this year that they are sending to the AFL I believe. No sense dumping several million on a reliever in FA. Spend it where it counts in the rotation and replacing Bo's bat if he doesn't resign.

Don't discount the possibility of Varland being tried as a starter.

I could see them trying it maybe.

Bloss should be back mid season although he looked like ass ever since joining the Jays org. Hopefully it was just him falling apart because of his injury and he comes back strong. Tiedemann will also be interesting to follow, not sure when he's slated to return. Unlike Bastardo though, he can stay in AAA and start games there, although I won't be surprised if he ends up as a reliever eventually. Hopefully wrong on that. Stanifer is a guy I see factoring in the MLB sometime in 2026 as well. Not really sure what to think of guys like Lazaro Estrada or Adam Macko. Probably AAA depth until they wash out of the org.
